Default Assignment: Holiday Memories

I'm making a Christmas fruit cake for the first time in 10 years and I had to look for a little while to find my favourite recipe. I used to make this cake every Christmas for years & years, and only stopped when I started living alone. Getting the fruit ready today brought a lot of memories back - mostly of my loved ones & friends enjoying the end result.
Here is the first stage - fruit soaking in Cointreau... it's going to be so yummy, I can't wait.

Every year my children's elementary school has a gingerbread making event but now because of the "healthy eating" policy in school it was cancelled. The kindergarten/grade one teacher still chose to have a mini one because "every kid deserves to make a gingerbread house at Christmas" she told us
