Default Assignment: The Economy

The Graduate Lifeguard
163/365 - The Graduate Lifeguard

The economy has been brutal on the workforce here in California, where the state unemployment rate has risen to 12%. As for my story, I have a B.S. degree from a major university, yet found myself unemployed for the first year when my husband and I were stationed here. I'm grateful to have steady work lifeguarding now, but it's quite demoralizing that with all my education and 10 years of experience in my career field, I'm relegated to doing the same job I was doing when I was 15 years old!!! I have several friends here who still can't find work though, so I'm one of the lucky ones. Let us hope that our economy is on its way to a swift recovery.

Camera: Nikon D40
Lens: Nikon 18-55mm
Exposure: 0.4
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 22 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Taken on November 10, 2009

No, I think there is still room for some liner notes. A short sentence or two can help frame the image and increase a chance of shared understanding. The idea of a photo that stands on its own is a worthy one but there is plenty of precedent for some extra text (see many gallery displays and art books) and it does help create a view of an image that will probably be looked at briefly by most people (certainly the mods who have between now and Friday evening to shortlist and pick winners from all the eligible posts!).

BTW, we are past 8am GMT on Wednesday 11 November so the contest is now

CLOSED

although the assignment continues.

Default Queued-up for a better economy???????

I had some collection of coins from different countries. With the recession and some positive signs of recovery I thought my idea of repersenting the same with the coins says it all

I think that this VERY accurately depicts things. I'm so glad that you do have a job and your smiling face (in a REALLY cool photograph) shows that. I think this should be in the top 3 personally Nice job!

On this economy climate, we all need to go back to basics - save wherever is possible, even in the most common things like electricity! It is tough, I know but we need to start somewhere. Also, by doing this, you will help saving some Polar Bears!

Wulf already made it clear the member is not breaking any rules, so it is ridiculous that anyone persists in stating this is "inappropriate" for the forum. The forum rules restrict speech in three ways:

1. Be nice.
2. No advertising.
3. No links to illegal software.

The member provided a simple narrative that was completely in line with the rules, fit the assignment, and provided their personal experience concerning the said narrative. They've broken no rules nor have they broken with the INTENT of the board, which is to share photographs and personal experiences as a photographer. The only ones causing problems are those that attempt to turn this into a debate about religion (or your lack thereof and offense thereto).

The member is not attempting to convert anyone or claim a superior religion. Perhaps your time would be better spent contemplating why you're so easily offended by a God you don't believe in.

I agree 100% it's about time someone said that.

While processing photos from a recent photowalk, I realized the spiral of this parking garage pretty much summed up my thoughts on the economy : these days you just can't tell if it's spiraling downward or upward.

Processing: Green monochrome filter, curves.
Doesn't it depend on which direction you walk round it
