Default Assignment: The Economy

This is from a subdivision near me that utilized some creative financing, and the result was that just about every family there was foreclosed on. This house has been winterized while in the reflection you see a house where construction stopped over a year ago.

EXIF:

Taken November 8, 2009
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
F-stop f/5.6
Exposure 1/60 sec
ISO - 800
Exposure Bias 0 step
Focal length 55 mm
No flash

Converted to black and white with exaggerated contrast to promote a somewhat gritty feel, which I felt was appropriate for the subject.

Assignment: The Economy Oct. 28 - Nov. 11

Colones are our currency in Costa Rica.

Colones

Inflation has affected our colones severily, it is even noticeable in the coins size and the ones that have been taken out of circulation. The picture shows the current one hundred colones coin and the last version that circulated of the one colon coin, several years ago. The 100 colones coin is dates 2000, the 1 colon coin is dated 1982.

I can still remember when a one colon coin was as big as the current one hundred colones coin. What can you do with one of this coins? Well, not much, for example, I need 3.2 of them (320 colones) to pay the toll to get to work everyday.

Taken on November 10, 2009 at 8.35pm GMT+6
Camera: Canon PowerShot S5 IS
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/2.7
Focal Length: 6 mm
ISO Speed: 80
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Complete EXIF available at Flickr.

I'd love to see a credit card in an ice block. Not enough time left to try it myself.

I just love this piggy's smile! Great to see in such a typically dreary subject

I know it's initials, but did you purposefully plan on wearing that belt to spell LAC(K) as in "lack there of"? Or was it just coincidental? love it either way, lol!

Core EXIF information would be:

Camera
Lens (if applicable)
Shutter speed
Aperture
ISO

It would also be useful to note any lighting or post-processing you have done and perhaps a line or two to explain why you chose this picture to represent the theme or any challenges you had to overcome.

Why? The repeat of the assignment title shows you are giving permission for it to be used on the DPS blog if selected as a winner, the date shows it was taken in the eligible time frame and the EXIF information helps us all to learn.

All good advice except that if your picture needs explanation??? The image and its title should say it all in a photography forum, no?
