Default Should be renamed arachnophobia

This assignment should be renamed arachnophia assignment - so many spiders! It would be nice if each post could just post a link to a spider photo and not show the actual photo but a warning 'this contains 8 legs' so you don't have to look!

Without seeing all the entries yet to be made - the winner has to be the dentist opened gummy mouth. Don't think there could be much scarier. Should be on national flossing campaign posters! YUK!!

I also agree...whilst post production and using programs is effective and clever I thought the idea was to improve our photography skills not our artistic talents..makes our genuine photos pale in comparison..different categories would be fairer on all.

Default How Many Fingers do I have

I did a photo shoot at a cemetery with a few models. I was using a long shutter speed (6 seconds) and had the models move around the tomb stone creating a ghost affect. I was triggering a 2nd flash off axis to capture a 2nd ghost image.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi
6.0 sec shutter speed
Manual Exposure
f/4.5
ISO 200
focal length: 34 mm
Lens: EF-S18-55mm kit lens

Here are two images from my shoot.

Default Post Processing

Have faith in the mods, those of you who either don't like, can't do, or can't afford post processing . Mods are always suggesting practice and improvement of technical ability, since that is the main focus of this site, for us all to grow as photographers. I have faith that they will not choose 3 heavily edited photos for the contest, nor necessarily 3 that have minimal PP. I think they do a good job of balancing their choices, which must be difficult because photography (like all art) is so subjective, and look at the sheer volume of some of these assignments. Focus on your personal growth, and fear not, the deserving shall get what is coming to them...mwah ha ha

"Next week is "Scary or Spooky"...
Remember, you should be using some of the things you learned in past assignments. For an assignment like this, lighting can really make a difference. Use it to create a mood, hide something in shadows, imagine what ghetto lighting can do. Perhaps High ISO will give a graininess to your image that enhances the feeling. Remember the Negative Space and Contrast assignments? What have you learned about composition? Consider the Rule of Thirds and Natural Framing.

Creative assignments such as these need to include some of the technical things you know. The more you practice those technical basics with every assignment, the more second nature they become."
