<<[QUOTE=bmjesus;626554]Hi,
I've decided to change just the aperture, thus changing significantly the subject of the photography. The large aperture in first photo unfocused most of the picture leaving only the larger snail on bottom right focused, making it the main subject. The small aperture in the second photo increases the general depth of field in the photography giving more emphasis to the patterns and shape rather than the individual snail. >>> I liked the first one. I took those 2 photos on 22/08/09 @ 05:20 am
and bothe are Auto ISO I prefer the second one, the candle in focus but the depth of field is very shallow and the background is out of focus the settings for the first photo IMG_5637 are: f/4.8 1/60 flash on custom White Bal. the second photo IMG_5638 settings are: f/4.8 1/8 No flash custom White Bal. |

I have been visiting this web site for many months now, reading tips and articles and reviewing all the assignments. I bought my Olympus E510 nearly 2 years ago but still haven't mastered it yet. I always find an excuse not to post any of my efforts, usually because I don't pick up on the assignments until they are closed!
This assignment - "Two for One" - has been a real eye-opener to me. The effects of changing aperture or the focal point are fairly obvious, but the more subtle combined effect of changing aperture/exposure/ISO together is something I haven't tried. More surprising still is the effect of changing just the white balance. This assignment has opened up a whole new world to me. I sometimes think I am getting further away from, rather than closer to, mastering this digital photography lark! Food for thought. A big thank you to all the contributors. Steve Drinkhall, UK. |
