Augh! I come back from a vacation to find Sime has given the new assignment as "Album Cover." Very clever assignment, but I had only one day to come up with an example. My brain is still in holiday mode, so Sime provided the example shot this week. However, the topic did remind me of Digidave's popular and sorely missed series of "Classic Rock Challenges" in the Games and Challenges section. Try a search for them, there are 27 in all, and they're lots of fun.
![]() Did you consider the composition to leave space for your album name? And did you remember most album covers are square? As always, the rules...Please note the change in closing time. Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 29th of July and the 12th of August. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "Assignment: Album Cover" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (800px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here. Now for next week's assignment. "Mixing Elements". Your image should show two or more of the basic elements of earth, air, fire and water, not just one. |

Assignment: Album Cover
Not too please with this but determined to do another assignment! Photo of the paint on one of our walls, it was there when we moved in and we don't have the heart to paint over it! Edited in Photoshop Elements as my laptop with CS3 on it is broken Upped the contrast, changed the hue a little, and cropped. Then added a texture on top of it all.I was going for more of a graphic look, even though this is created from a photograph (obviously!). I like minimalistic album covers. ![]() Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 1600 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: No Flash Exposure Program: Manual Software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 (20060914.r.77) Windows Taken on August 5, 2009 Last edited by bad wolf; 08-06-2009 at 09:26 PM. |

Cutting Costs
![]() The cover is a combination of two pictures: one with just the money, and a second one with the scissors and the credit card. PP was done using GIMP. I figured that in the current economic climate, money is on everyone's mind, as well as cutting costs. The last part I tried to visualise by cutting up the credit card. I didn't have a particular artist in mind for the 'album', just a broad audience, hence the various currencies in the background. Date pictures taken: August 2, 2009 EXIF info - Money picture: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80) Aperture: f/5.3 Focal Length: 65 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV Flash: No Flash EXIF info - Credit card picture: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 80 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV Flash: No Flash Both originals + all other trial setups I made for this assignment are on flickr: Album cover assignment

This may be a silly question, but the date says July 29th as the beginning date, but I didn't see this posted before today. I am new to the forum, so maybe you backdate it so that people can submit photos from the previous week, but could you let me know? Thanks.

This is my literal interpretation of "Album Cover". My son recreating the 1994 Alice in Chains "Jar of Flys" album cover (inset). I call it "Jar of Coins." We had lots of fun...

![]() I have several album cover shots that I am happy with this week... how can I ever choose just one?! Well I'll go with this one for now. Five different shots of clouds over the course of one afternoon. The Album Leaf (that's the name of the band) seems like the perfect kind of music to listen to while laying in the afternoon sun and watching cloud formations. If you click on the photo, there's a link to a song by them for your listening pleasure Thanks all, hope you like it!If using multiple photos isn't appropriate for this assignment, I'd appreciate if one of the judges/mods would let me know All photos taken August 3, 2009 Photo1: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200) Aperture: f/7.1 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 200 Photo2: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 400 Photo3: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200) Aperture: f/7.1 Focal Length: 42 mm ISO Speed: 200 Photo4: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 250 Photo5: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250) Aperture: f/8.0 Focal Length: 45 mm ISO Speed: 200 Links to each individual photo with EXIF intact: http://www.flickr.com/photos/keikyu/3794010191/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/keikyu/3794830040/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/keikyu/3794010417/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/keikyu/3794010303/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/keikyu/3794010367/
