Default Assignment: A Mistake. Lost in Fog.

On a very foggy day I went out, hoping to shoot some atmospheric pictures. Things appearing out of the fog, mysterious scenes etc.
I am partially sighted and, though I can see the picture on the camera, it is only at home, on my laptop screen, that I can see if I managed to get anything worthwhile. I tend to shoot away like mad and sort things out at home. Sometimes I've caught unexpected things (good or bad), often I am left with a couple of reasonable photographs after a morning's shooting.
In this case I thought I had a nice shot of a ship 'coming through,' and it was only later I realized the fog was a bit too thick and hardly anything is visible.
It's not what I intended, but I still like the picture because of its unexpectd gloominess.

Default Assignment "Mistake" 06-09-2009

Assignment: Mistake
Camera: Sony DSLR-A300
Lens: 18mm (18-70mm lens)
Date taken: 06-09-2009, 9:02:17 PM, Kemah, TX
ISO: 100
Shutter speed: 13 sec.
Aperture: f/18

I was at the fair in Kemah and I was making pictures with long exposures. I was trying to get a picture as shown in the small Thumnail. But I pressed the shutter at the wrong time (just as the ride stopped) and I was not happy (first I had to wait 13 sec. to make the picture and then I had to wait 13 sec. for the picture to get processed). After that, I saw what the picture was and I was very surprised. I really love it.

Default Assignment: A Mistake

Two ornamental felt birds hanging in the window. I originally wanted the two of them in focus, and the green trees and blue sky as a sort of out-of-focus background.. But I forgot to change the exposure. I still don't really understand the way the light behaves, especially on the bird in the back.. But it turned out alot better than the shot I was planning to get.

Camera: Nikon D60
Exposure: 0.2 sec (1/5)

Default Assignment: A Mistake

Color Abstract

Trying to capture our little landscape pond with fountain at night. The red is from a light in the pond and the blue is from some Halloween lights from the house. I thought I would get a shot of the crystal clear water with a red glow, but this is how it turned out. I liked the abstract feel of it.

Camera: Sony DSLR-A200
Exposure: 2
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 70 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Default My delicious mistake

Ok, so I was trying to photograph this Tennessee landmark, right? But in order to make the shot more colorful and less dull, I wanted to have A LITTLE BIT of the yellow flowers on the bottom of the picture. Problem is I didn't precisely have all the time in the world to compose, as my traveling partner was rushing me, so I put it all together the best I could and fired... looked ok in my little camera screen, but when I blew it up on my computer screen I realized that not only the flowers were out of focus, but they had filled up half the frame. Still somehow I like the peek-a-boo effect it created and kept the shot.

I 'took" this photo acidentally while climbing over the fence you see in the shot with my camera hanging round my neck. I liked the view and the action in the sky so I didn't delete it. Not a big fan of crooked horizons though so I straitended the horizon but left the canvas arround the shot.

I applied "gritty", then "b&w" (no filters), then cropped and sharpened it. This is now my FAVORITE pic of my son!!!! I LOVE it at the large setting (can see detail of his cute freckles better) but I know we can't post it that size
Stunning portrait! Just love the look of it that the trained background creates.

Default Assignment: A Mistake

I was taking photos of my friends band at a pub in London a while back. This shot ended up focusing on the singer/guitarist's hand rather than his face. However the fact that he has written the set list on the back of his hand, makes this picture a favourite of mine rather than a total mistake!

Camera Model: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Date/Time: 2008:04:10 21:59:14
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 50.0mm (35mm equivalent: 87mm...
Exposure Time: 0.0063 s (1/160)
Aperture: f/2.2
ISO Equiv.: 800
Whitebalance: Auto
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
