I wasn't going to post an entry in this week's assignment because I usually delete my mistakes right away. I don't like reminders of my inexperience. However, when I was in my back yard today trying to take a picture of our dog, I saw this beautiful butterfly land on a lantana flower. I quickly took a shot before the butterfly flew away two seconds later. The shot was quite out of focus, but I really liked the colors and the parallel view to the butterfly's wings. I applied some major post-production to salvage something.

This photo was taken in 2006. I had just purchased a new 400 mm lens and was taking some pictures just to see what it was like.
This photo was taken through a tree which is blurred and as the footy players are running and trying to catch the ball it looks like they are about to disappear into an other world. Pentax *ist DS May 9, 2006 1/500 sec F8 ISO 200 Focal lenght 320mm

Assignment - A Mistake
Here's the story. Was shooting the Watoto Children's Choir from Uganda (East Africa) last week... They're doing an Australian tour at the moment (absolutely awesome I might add!) And was shooting in a high speed burst in an attempt to capture all the motion which goes on during their energetic performances. While shooting I decided to zoom in on the young fellow in the middle of the choir. This shot was taken while I was changing the zoom on the lens - not an effect I was attempting to create, and almost deleted when viewed on the screen of the camera glad I didn't ![]() EXIF Camera: Canon EOS 40D Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25) Aperture: f/4.5 Focal Length: 28 mm ISO Speed: 500 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire Date and Time: 2009:07:08 19:39:14

I am trying to do an experiment of shooting using slow synchronization. I took the picture around 10pm under the strong illumination of a street light. My mistake I committed that night were the following : I forgot that my White Balance was set to day light instead of Incandescent thus resulting my picture to unrealistic color. I change the focal point from 200mm to 70mm too fast which resulted to a blurry picture. I read an article that it takes a lot of practice before mastering slow & synchro technique. The attached picture here are originally taken and has not been altered except the resizing for DPS compliance.

I prefer to shoot in Aperture Priority and sometimes forget to change my settings when I need to capture moving cats and dogs. (I take photos of adoptable pets for our humane society's website). This time, not only was shutter speed wrong, I had the ISO at 800. I really like the way left side of the frame blurs out. It has an artsy feel to me.

This was a nighttime Space Shuttle launch here in Florida. I was using my one-month old Nikon D60. I had never used a digital camera before, and did not realize that there were settings that would allow me to take decent nighttime shots.
No tripod or knowledge led up to this picture. There are several more, but looking back, this was a good shot (IMHO). I'm grateful that I've never deleted any shots (yet). The high, white round light is the Space Shuttle. The second, lower bright light was the Moon. No, really! Nighttime Launch Nikon D60, kit lens 18-55mm Nov 14, 2008 8:56pm ISO 450 exposure 1/1s |

I took this photo off our deck. I was trying out different settings on the camera and just not getting it right. Lots of photos deleted but I kept this one because I like the colour.
