NO Subject
![]() What a mistake. No subject. Electric wires in top of photo. Photo is crooked. When I made this photo in April 2009, it was for my reference only; my intent was to return when the trees leaves came on and try to get a photo showing the white fence, barn and maybe a horse in a photo. This photo will be deleted from my flickr site as soon as this assignment is over. Make Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi Date Time Original 4/11/2009 7:14 PM Exposure Time 1/30 sec Aperture priority Aperture priority F-Stop f/11 ISO Speed Ratings 1600 Focal Length 18.00 mm

This was taken at the Sacramento Zoo. This beautiful cat was passing back and forth. I forgot to change my setting from the last exhibit in the sun and with this big guy being in the shade I would have never shot it at such a high shutter speed and low ISO. I should have upped the ISO and lowered my shutter speed to get a bit more light in my shot. If I had shot it in RAW I may have been able to fix it more in post edit as well. I now am shooting in RAW. However, I really like the ominous feel of being stalked by this guy. I like that his head is lowered in the shadows like he is getting ready to pounce. That is what these guys do after all, sneak up on their prey. I love it the way it is so I did not change a thing!

Alot of thing went wrong for this shot. I dangled the camera out the window, it refused to focus on anything so I flipped to manual and shot a bunch of shots not knowing where I was focused. White balance was also set to whatever i had it at before, which was last set outside, so that made the color interesting. Only thing I did right was set AE priority...but I use spot exposure and I got lucky the spot was on the wall

Into the light
![]() May 13, 2009
This is the whimsical neon escalator in Seattle's Public Library. I'd just been down in the children's department shooting the beautiful floor which features words created in raised letters in 11 languages. I'd set my camera right on the floor and taken a nice long exposure. Oops - forgot to change that setting before I took this shot from the hip riding up the escalator. But I liked the movement, so I pumped up the vibrance and temperature a bit in Lightroom and kept it. It reminds me what a magical place this library is.

Hello I'm new to the site and also fairly new to photography, I'm looking forward to these assignments and learning as much as possible.

Was fooling around with my granddaughter trying to get a decent pic, but she was feeling squirrelly.
Just as I clicked, she slid down and stuck her dainty little foot in front of the camera. It's one of my favorites of her, and shows her puckish personality... ![]() Taken March 25, 2008 Camera: Canon Powershot A630 Exposure: 0.017 sec. I took this pic as a test to find my correct settings for the "b&w portrait" session I was going to have with my daughter. I had my son stand in and clicked off a few. I would normally have dumped this because he is washed out and his eyes aren't very clear, but decided to play with it. I use picnik for my pp work. I applied "gritty", then "b&w" (no filters), then cropped and sharpened it. This is now my FAVORITE pic of my son!!!! I LOVE it at the large setting (can see detail of his cute freckles better) but I know we can't post it that size
