I took this on Mother's Day 2009, from a bouquet of roses I bought my wife. It was under exposed but I liked the look of it.

![]() I took this with my Kodak Easy Share point-and-shoot, and just as I was about to snap the shot, a mosquito landed on my ear and I flinched, creating the movement. It's actually turned out to be one of my favorites.

I took this on my week-old 50D, and as you might've guessed I hadn't got hold of the camera yet. I had the setting on fast burst mode and I thought perhaps the metering would be like shooting normally. It didn't. Instead, the reflection of the sun on the water was maybe too strong that it pushed the shutter speed almost all the way up and underexposed the subject. I liked the pose so much I rescued it with post.

![]() Camera: Digital EOS Rebel XSi (Canon 55-250 EF-S IS lens) ISO: 160 Focal Length: 250mm Aperature: 5.6 Shutter: 1/500 sec This was a mistake because I had switched my camera to full auto mode to take a picture that I was not experienced taking. I also left my camera in auto focus mode, so my camera focused on the flowers in the background rather than the ones close to the lens. I wanted to have the closer flowers to be in focus with the background to be blurred out. However, this photo turned out interesting, as if you are looking through the flowers in the foreground. I am still an extremely novice photographer and this is my first post. Hope it turns out well. Last edited by criterium; 07-11-2009 at 09:20 PM. |

Assignment: A Mistake
This was taken at my wedding. It's one of the first night shots I've taken with an EOS 400D, and I bumped the tripod as I took the pic, causing everything to blur in one direction. I think it would have looked great without the bump, but still like the abstract quality and the colours caused by the bump. It sums up the theme of the wedding, which was "Midsummer Night's Dream" Canon EOS 400D f4.5, 1.3 second exposure ![]() Bigger one here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3499/...1309301f_o.jpg

![]() Camera: Pentax Optio A10 Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400) Aperture: f/10.8 Focal Length: 23.7 mm Focal Length: 76mm ISO Speed: 50 Exposure Bias: 0/10 EV Before I got my new super-zoom my wife and I had a pocket sized Pentax Point and Shoot. I had it on auto everything and snapped a picture of the pond while we were out for a walk on a warm day. Well, It's accidently underexposed (that's a common theme in this thread, one I might have to explore creatively) but I like it. The super bright reflection makes the picture feel as hot as the day was. I don't have a huge back catalogue of pictures to go through, so this was my best one. |

![]() This is one of the first pictures I took with my new (or new to me) Rebel XT. I like how it focused on the snow flakes even though I was trying to focus on my dog. So I decided to keep it. The composition my not be the best but since the snow ended up being the subject I decided it worked. Taken 2-28-2009 Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/640) Aperture: f/2.2 Focal Length: 50 mm ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire

![]() 1st January 2009 Camera: Nikon D300 Lens: Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Exposure: 0.25 sec (1/4) Aperture: f/4 Focal Length: 30 mm ISO Speed: 1600 Yup, great start to the year. Classic mistake of not resetting the camera settings after previous use...ISO was stuck at 1600 and shutter speed was too low as a result of Aperture Priority and Centre Weighted metering. Took a quick shot of friend's daughter because she was pouting. It wasn't until I checked on photos later at night that I realised it was *quite* over-exposed. As I had shot in RAW mode, I pulled back some highlight details in post-process, cloned out distracting catch lights in her eyes as a result of camera movement, and fiddled around with the white balance and that's it. This turned out to be a rather nice high-key, suggestive portrait. |
