Default Assignment: B&W Portraits

This is my first post here. Thought I'd give this contest a shot. It is so hard to pick from all of my black & whites, so I decided to pick the most natural one I took. This one is a candid shot of my niece and great-nephew while we were on our recent camping trip/family reunion. They were playing a card game and having a blast, and not knowing I had my camera pointed in their direction!

Taken with my Nikon D60
f/5
1/500 sec
ISO 140
120mm (used my 55-200 lens)
no flash (I love natural light)
converted to b&w in Photoshop
taken on June 21, 2009

Default Assignment: B&W Portraits

Last weekend at the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory I took lots of pictures but this lady impressed me the most. A butterfly landed on her hand and her face expression changed but stayed calm at the same time. She didn't even observed me taking the picture only after the butterfly flew away.

There was no light source so torch from a mobile phone was wrapped in a newspaper, it was clicked in dark. that is why, i used the exposure of 15 sec. i m new to photography and i understand from other post, the same effect can be had in a lighted room with faster shutter speed and higher depth of field. there is slight blurring though in the photograph.
