Default Assignment: B&W Portraits

All 11 of my nieces and nephews on my husband's side of the family love to pose for me. It's hard to choose a favorite, but this one stood out among all the rest I took this weekend. She's 9 years old and beautiful inside and out, though already a bit misunderstood.

So this past week I was in Salt Lick, Kentucky for a missions trip. Our sight was two houses, one of which we had to completely reside over espestos, tear off, and build a new deck. This man, Jim, Lived there. He would come out every morning and watch us work with a smile on his face....

Every day I look at this picture, it reminds me of a sign I saw while I was down there that I take to heart now.

"Too Blessed to be Depressed"

If anyone knows the conditions of Eastern Kentucky, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't.....well it's something unbelieveable.

Default ***Assignment: "B&W Portraits"

Elizabeth 15 months.jpg

I'm new to posting. This is a picture of my daughter that I took today. I love catching reflections in my portraits. I used an older Canon camera but still like the results I get.

Camera: Canon PowerShot S1 IS
F-stop: f/2.8
Exposure time: 1/800 sec.
ISO: Auto (I know it's the lazy way but it's effective with my 15 month old most of the time)
Focal Length: 6mm
Max Aperture: 2.96875
No Flash
Shot in color and altered in Gimp 2.

Default At Work

I was in downtown Vancouver today, and decided to go by the job site my brother works at. I decided to take this shot, in all its scruffiness! It reminded me of all the years i spent in construction before I got into teaching.
