This beautiful foliage which is the topic for DPS assignment forum this week comes from the Japanese maple which is in the front entry to our home. Because of it's beautiful maroon color, it's one of our favorite landscaping accents.

Default Assignment: Plants, but not flowers

This little guy is called a Catlin Elm (I think?)
Barely a few inches tall but looks like a full grown tree. Very cute in our window.
I have a picture on my flickr that has a coke can next to it for scale.

Default Assignment: plants not flowers

It's golden time here in California - the period between winter, our green season,
and summer / autumn when fields take on a burnt, desperate-for-rain look.

You know you're a Californian when you describe the hills as golden instead of brown.
