Under the sea....of lighting and reflection.

Here is a shot of my setup.

45/365 Ghetto Lighting + Reflector

Lighting used was two small flashlights to light the background and a homemade light stand (camera right) bounced off a homemade tinfoil reflector.

Totally ghetto setup
Background: Plates hanging by string against a black sheet (draped over an ironing board and held in place by a bottle of bleach, a toy centipede, and a bottle of hand soap)
Lighting (Background): Fluorescent work light flagged by cardboard
Lighting (Foreground): Left of subject (my dad) is a round makeup mirror (my mom's) with a ring light around it
Reflector: Mirror and white dry-erase board to the left and slightly behind subject

Default Assignment: "Ghetto Lighting + Reflector"

Black-Eyed Susan Grater

Camera: Canon PowerShot G10
Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 21.5 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off

I did not want to use a reflector only to fill-in light but to reflect an image onto another subject. Black-eyed Susan seed packet was used as a reflector. The object is a kitchen grater with a piece of gift paper under the front part. Two 60W lights were used, one of them with a piece of tracing paper to diffuse light falling on the front of the grater. The set-up is on my Flickr site. I increased saturation and exposure by 1 stop in DPP and sharpened the photo in Photoshop.

Default Assignment: "Ghetto Lighting + Reflector" May 13- May 27

This is my first time to post and join in the assignment.
Here is the link to my entry for this week's assignment: Ghetto Lighting + Reflector...

for full size: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3619/...29b40703_b.jpg

Hope this works! I'm not sure if the file I uploaded in Flickr would still have the EXIF intact.

For this picture, I had several silver 10 cents form the letters I and U, then the golden pennies to form the heart (although the color of the coins didn't matter in the end). In total darkness (well, nearly total darkness), I had the pen light (emitting reddish light) positioned/angled at the side so that it will highlight the coins. I placed a white board on the other side to reflect some light onto the guitar. Any feedback is appreciated!

Arigato!

EXIF data:
Camera Model: Nikon D60
Date taken: 5/25/09 11:45:18 PM
Flash used: No
Focal Length: 32mm
F number: F/5
Exposure time: 5 sec
Metering Mode: Spot
Exposure compensation: 0

I just want to share that today, me and my boyfriend are celebrating our 30th monthsary, and I will be e-mailing him this picture (I'm in Canada, he's in the Philippines).

Default Assignment: Ghetto Lighting + Reflector

The background is a piece of stain glass I have for my "other hobby". The "reflective" surface under the bottle is the shiny side of poster board.

I used a desk lamp behind the glass background and I'm holding a LED lamp set to blue directly in front of the bottle trying to center the reflection on the glass background.

Default Assignment: Ghetto Lighting + Reflector

My setup was pretty dire. I used a striped plastic folder/organizer and put it in front of the lamp. It created a nice effect. I used a still not opened pack of oslo paper as a reflector.

Exposure Time: 1/200 sec.
