Well I hope you've all been having some relaxing (or exciting!) evenings to photograph. For most of us, a typical evening may mean cooking dinner, spending time with the family, and maybe a little television or computer time before bed. So were you able to take relatively mundane things interesting? It can be tough to pull off
.BTW, if you haven't seen them already, you might be interested in the photos ( or here on flickr) taken by Pete Souza, the official White House photographer, of some events in President Obama's days. His evenings may not be quite like ours, but definitely interesting from a photographic point of view. Check out the lighting, composition and angles he uses, as well as his use of shadows, framing and reflections. Unfortunately, the shots I took last night did not turn out well but here is one way I spend my evenings:![]() As always, the rules...Please note the change in closing time. Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your image you submit should be taken between the 22nd of April and the 6th of May. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "Assignment: Your Evening" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (800px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here. Next week: "Kitchen Utensils". Grab something from your kitchen and get creative. Think about lighting and composition. Consider humor or drama, color or b&w, reflections, shadows, and dof. Stuck for ideas? What if you were trying to sell the object? Make the ordinary extraordinary! Last edited by Saralonde; 04-29-2009 at 01:57 PM. |

Been looking foward to this assignment since it was announced. Contemplating what aspect of my favourite evening activities to show. Going to try and take a photo per night, and decide at the end which to use.
By the way, RT... amazing photo. What a way to start the assignment! Setting the standard high!

I spent my first evening of the assignment watching the sunset on the Tuscon Mountains drinking a corona with lime. I love vacation.

Assignment: Your Evening
I'm not sure if this can be submitted for the assignment or not.... I had an idea to take a pic of what I often do...surf the DPS site! ![]() I took this with the Isight camera built into my mac, therefore no exif. The rules state exif "should" be intact, and it "helps" if you can include the major points in the post. But I've read where submissions are disqualified if either is not done... So what's the deal? I spend my evenings mostly going through & sorting the shots I took during the day while watching tele.
this is a refraction shot of smarties, had to clean-up a bit in PS-e. To setup for this shot, I put some smarties in a white cup, placed a clear clean cd case on top, then dropped some water on the cd case. Using my macro lens I focused on the water droplets & got some pretty cool shots. ![]() Camera Model Canon EOS 450D Shooting Date/Time 27/04/2009 07:49:42 Shooting Mode Manual Exposure Tv( Shutter Speed ) 13 Av( Aperture Value ) 20.0 Metering Mode Evaluative Metering ISO Speed 200 Lens EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Focal Length 100.0 mm Flash Off White Balance Mode Auto AF Mode Manual focusing

My evenings are mainly taken up by my instruments, I used the candle for a soft flicker over the keys and had a very low powered computer monitor a few feet behind me.
This was an attempt to expose the serenity of the atmosphere when I get caught up in my music... ![]() (size 800x533 'Large' setting on photobucket) Canon EOS 400D Shooting Date/Time 29/04/2009 23:59:16 Shooting Mode Manual Tv( Shutter Speed ) 8.0 Max Aperture Value f/3.5 Metering Mode Average ISO Speed 100 Lens EF-S 18-55mm Focal Length 24.0 mm Flash Off White Balance Mode Auto Focus Mode Manual
