Abandoned Wisdom
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll leave the rod and nets in the back shed to go dusty. ![]() Taken: 8 April 2009 Camera: Canon 450D Lens: Canon 18-200mm IS Exposure: 0.8, -0.70 App: f/3.5 Focal: 18mm Iso: 400 No flash. Edits in CS4. |

"The Tree of Knowledge" This was taken at the foot of a huge old tree in Okinawa, Japan. Something very "wise" about every tree here... this is actually just one small corner of the massive tree! ![]() When I think of widsom, I think of 'old' (like this old car!). But maybe being wise means knowing when it is time to leave old wisdom behind, and learn something new? Here's to hoping the auto industry gains a little 'wisdom': that the days of the gas-guzzlers are at an end, and that it would be wise to move to a more innovative future! Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30) Aperture: f/4.5 Focal Length: 32 mm ISO Speed: 720 March 30, 2009

This photo happened by accident, hence the blur, as I set up my scene of The Good Book sitting on the wall/step of an Ancient Okinawan Tomb. My original idea became so much more as my 6 yr. old son sticks his hand in my shot, & I thought "perfect"! Please draw your own conclusions, but I personally am going for a symbolic wisdom found inside a child reaching out for The Holy Book... the unsure wisdom we call "Faith"... & the Ancient Tomb represents the wisdom one can gain only in the afterlife. Nikon D40 Nikkor 18-55mm Lens April 1, 2009 3:44pm Resolution 3008x2000 Orientation: Rotated 270 Degrees Flash not used 38.0mm Focal Length 35mm Equivalent 57mm Exposure Time: 0.013s (1/80) Aperture: f/8 ISO 200 Matrix Metering Mode Aperture Priority Exposure Post Edits: Crop, Filtered B&W, Intense Soft Focus, Slight Glow, & warmify. I did these edits since the hand was in unexpected motion, I tried to take the focus off of that blur factor. |

Hi Goldie, You have really beautiful pictures!! Anyway, just thought I may suggest reading, if you haven't already, the "rules" for posting in the assignments on the first page of this thread. If I'm not mistaken, you can only submit one official photo per assignment and it's recommended that the size of your photos be no more than 800px on the longest side. Just thought it'd be a shame for your pretty pictures, which you've obviously spent a lot of time on, to miss out on judging because those "rules" weren't complied to. And I think you still have time to make the changes!! |
