Thanks Lute, happy you liked it I lighted it with an SB800 at 1/64 power from top from about 2 1/2 feet away. I also snooted the flash to concentrate the light on just the shoes--at 1/200 shutter speed, the photo will come out all black despite shooting it in a completely fluorescent lit room.

Default Assignment: Negative space

This was taken yesterday, Feb. 3, 2009. Negative space is kinda hard concept but i hope this is right. I searched the definition of it on the internet and i found out that it has something to do with silhouette..that's y i took this kind of shot.

That's not a bad approach (too late for the competition so I can comment on it before I get round to doing my shortlisting). The eye is drawn in by the flame but then the silhouetted person in the foreground becomes apparent. The empty, "negative" space thus becomes part of the image rather than just wasted space.

I know there are loads of entries, but I've been wondering which have got the concept of negative space right and which haven't. It would be really useful to the learner [ie me!] if there was some kind of commentary on the entries. I wouldn't expect a detailed critique, but as it's an assignment, some indication of pass or fail, or maybe a grade, would help a lot.
