I was pleased with the following shot from the RHS Garden at Wisley (Surrey, UK):

Camellia Blossom #1

If you look on my photostream, you will see that there is another, pinker shot taken from the same bush but I prefer this one where the pink camellia holds its own against the greens and cyan of the background.

Here's one of the lamp we got for the new baby's room. I'm having a devil of a time getting it to look "real". This is probably the closest I've gotten, but the light bulb overpowers the pink lampshade. It's not like that in real life though. How can I put that bright light in its place?

I don't think it's to bright loosestring. it doesn't appear washed out, and we can still see the detail on the lamp shade.

Like Faded-Mantis said, I think the picture is fine. If you do want to get more detail, there are various options. One would be to put a lower wattage bulb in. Another would be to try an energy saving bulb. They can get pretty bright but often take a while to warm up, giving you a window to capture some alternative takes (it will also save on your electricity bill and reduce global carbon emissions so perhaps you could leave it in there).

If you have a tripod or something to rest the camera on, you could also take multiple pictures at different exposure settings (or even one with the bulb in the lamp switched off) and experiment with combining them on the computer, either to more closely approximate what you see or to get some wacky effects.

Thanks for the comments and advice. It's just that in person it doesn't really look quite that bright and I was trying to "duplicate reality" so to speak.

This was my first attempt at removing all but one focal color. My daughter, Sarah.

Default 1st Camellia

This is the one and only flower hanging on my camellia bush at present. It faces away from my spa. I went out the other night and stood in a flower box at dusk, and used my macro freature on my E-500 Olympus. I had no idea that the background would be black, but I love the way it turned out. What do you think?

I'm still not sure why I get a thumbnail on my post instead of a full size photo. Any suggestions?
