Default Assignment: What's in your bag?

Too many bags... and too much on my plate

"Too many bags... and too much on my plate!"

I have editing duties on the photo staff of my college newspaper, which involves making sure every photographer has a camera when they need it. Occasionally I find myself schlepping both of the newspaper's cameras along with my own around campus. Like today.
P.S. We could really use some new camera bags!

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT
Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 21 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0/2 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

Taken: October 30, 2008

Wow, looking at that strategically-placed zoom, I'm left feeling really inadequate. Having a major case of lens envy...

Smile Just a few odds and ends

Assignment: What's in your bag?

"The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it." - Ansel Adams

What's in your bag?

This was a lot of fun; here's how it was done. (Hint: 2 EXIFs: 1, 2.)

Default assignment: "What's in your bag?"

This is my first assignment so be gentle please. I used my point and shoot so I could take a picture of my regular camera. Unfortunately you can't really see it. This was the 3rd and last (unfortunately best) picture I was able to take because my kiddo didn't want to play with me anymore.

PA300019

contents of my bag:
Olympus e410, both kit lenses, a few filters (still attached to the lenses), manual & software, power cord and charger, memory cards, movie ticket to Kung Fu Panda

And no, I didn't really drop it, I had to set it up as fast as I could...Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was about to start. I was lucky to get 3 shots with her at all.

Exif (avail at flickr):
Cam: Olympus C750UZ (PnS)
Date/Time (Original): 2008:10:30 10:41:43
Exp: 0.2 sec (1/5)
Ap: f/2.8
Foc length: 6.3 mm
ISO: 200
Expo Bias: 0/10 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

Great shot and thanks for the "how to", but could you explain what you meant by "First, I set the camera to kill the ambient light."

Snoots, Goboes, gridding....my head is spinning. I have SO MUCH to learn.

Default Question

Is this assignment about "what's in my bag?" or "what's in my camera bag?" No offence but it seems a little unfair on people who don't have a camera bag. Also, does the camera have to be included in the shot too? what if some members only have one camera?

I hope someone can clear this for me...I'd really like to participate.

You have to carry your camera somehow...a pocket, a ziplock bag, something...I'm thinking you can get as creative as you want.

I have just one camera so I took the photo with the mobile camera. Think again who is the sponsor of this assignment. It's a company that makes and sells camera bags. So, all this is just a poll for them so that they would understand our needs... their customers. Also it is advertising because by this assignment we found out about their product. Show what you have how you can. Fulfill their need so that they would fulfill yours - the prize

Default My Geear Bag

"Assignment: What's in your bag?"
while posting notes on the photo in flickr, I realized how girly some of my gear is, but I'm a girl, so it's ok.
Photo taken with Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 on the Portrait mode with the macro on for better focus, and using my DIY film canister flash diffuser. Taken today, because I just found this place today via a few links originating from a post in a flickr group pertaining to photo shop. I found a great tutorial! And I'm glad I found this forum...looks cool!
Here is my camera bag and gear. If you go to the image in flicker, you can go to the photo next to it and see all the goodies inside. I was gonna post it here, but since it's two images together done in photoshop, the exif data doesn't show up.
the little pockets on the side and the elastic bands on the front are mostly useless. Things fall out of the pockets and the elastic bands don't stay tight. I've nearly lost things that have fallen from both areas.

Gear Bag
Contents are extensive and subject to change without notice!!

Canon Rebel XTi with customized, one of a kind, needlepoint hippy strap
Nishika N8000 (which is currently replacing Anscoflex and ttv rig)
Konica Minolta Dimage Z6
Tamron 75-300mm with UV filter and lens hood
Tamron 28-80mm with UV filter, lens hood and .5x wide angle adapter
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 50mm 1.8
1 set of three 58mm macro filters
58->52mm adapter
52->58mm adapter
1 lined cigar tin holding three 52mm filters (UV, MC-1A, Circular Polarizer)
3 extra CF cards
2 extra batteries for Canon
Extra AA batteries for Konica
DIY grid spot and film canister flash diffuser
clean zip type storage bag (you never know when you'll need one!)
Cleaning paraphernalia
desiccant to help control the moisture inside the bag (hubby finds these at work, so I have several I can swap out)
Pen and note paper
'Business' cards (that I never remember to hand out)
ball cap and handmade stocking hat
handmade fingerless mitts and photographers mittens
hair bands to keep my long hair out of the shots
ankle brace in case I sprain my ankle again (wish I had it last time!)
Knife handmade by my hubby for my birthday in sheath I made myself
mag light
hand lotion and nail file chocolate and hair comb (because a girl has to have them!)
cellphone and wallet
gum
The Pip Expanded Guide to the Canon EOS 400D/Digital Rebel XTi (if I can learn something new from this book at 5 am just so I can capture lightening, then it's GOOD!)
Tripod
(also been known to carry trail mix, beef jerky, maps, boy scout patches, first aid kit, water bottle, light jacket and even a bottle of Sarsparilly!)
I just learned to use the custom white balance, so a white sheet of paper will be going in there too!
