I love this picture. I don't know if it's more contre-jour than silhouette, but it's a beautiful shot. Very dramatic.

Default Assignment: Contre-jour

**CHANGED IT AGAIN** (maybe I understand it this time...)

Along with (apparently quite a few) others, I was/still am a bit unsure of exactly what contre-jour consists of. Here's my submission according to what I read and understand. Somewhat of a silhouette with front lighting still noticeable, underexposed and overexposed sections...
Hope that's right!

Default I think I have it straight

I thought at the beginning I had a good grasp of the concept we are trying to learn however as I began shooting most of the shots turned out to be silhouettes or just not quite on par with the concept for one reason or another. It was easy for me to understand how it relates to light and how it is the opposite of HDR it is just quite a task for me to capture it in a photo. I really enjoy learning from reading and participating in this forum. This is a real challenge and thank you for exposing us to it.

As I was looking back over older photos I found this one which to me is hilarious and dramatic and I think fits the assignment nicely.

NOT MY ENTRY; Just to share (Please let me know if this would NOT qualify as contre-jour; there are plenty of underexposed areas in this shot but the only overexposed part is the teeth and gums. Is it ok for only a small portion of the photo to have either underexposed or overexposed areas as long as the photo includes both?) I am still deciding which shot to enter for the assignment and will post it soon.

I Do agree with you Wulf ... Most people do this assignment all the time by mistake ... It's like taking pictures of people away from the sun because they don't like to look at the sun nor quint their eyes and pictures turned up to be dark

Default My take on it

So I finally got my new Sony DSLR A300 a few days ago and I'm excited to finally be able to participate in these assignments. Silly me though when I got the camera on 9/2/08 I accidentally set the date for 2/9/08. Then took this picture later for the assignment only to find out later that it's not dated correctly! However I wanted to share it anyways and will work toward the next assignment instead... (camera date now fixed, lol)

Camera: Sony DSLR-A300
Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 28 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0/10 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

Default assignment: Contre Jour

This is my first attempt at this technique. Thanks to all for the discussion and advice about what would fit this assignment. I don't know why I like this shot but I do. It is not the one I was planning on entering but it grabbed me when I saw it.
