Ingrid, Oxa and Buck...to be eligible for the mini-contest your posts' titles or message bodies should include "Assignment: Product Photography" (a couple of you incorrectly have "Assignment: Product Placement" in your posts). You can add this to your posts or titles by clicking on the "edit" button at the bottom of your original posts.

JLN, that's beautiful - love the warmth and golden hues. Composition is really nice, too!

Genuine ferrite core memory. Provided character storage for the IBM 2821 Control Unit. Typically attached to a 1403 printer. Probably 1963-1965 time frame. If you look at the full size photo, the rows of black things are doughnuts (cores) on edge. The red is sensor wire laced through the individual cores.

So if you ever hear a programmer remark about a "core dump" , that's what it looks like.

I thought it was a loom for weaving pot holders and others.

Default Assignment - Product

Wife and I had some fun with her halloween costume. The only question we have is, do you have a little captain in yah?

captain

Exif same for both photos except one note below, not listed on flikr due to photoshop post.

Camera: Canon EOS-1D Mark III
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/8
Focal Length: 28 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

X-Resolution: 300 dpi

Flash: Both photos use two softboxes on strobes, one coned strobe with a red filter, and one DIY snooted speedlight with a red filter. Only variation is the left photo has blue fabric with rhinstones arranged over one softbox for blue diffused light trying to get at a moonlight type of feel. Smoke created with halloween fog machine, speedlight with red filter snooted at fog smoke.

Assignment: Product Photography
Newbie here...probably one of the few people submitting photos taken with a point and shoot...let alone with one that can make phone calls too =P

After discovering this forum, I honestly stopped taking photos as randomly as I did before. Just wanted to put some of the stuff I learned here into use. Comments will be appreciated!!

It doesn't appear to be on your flickr site, so either you have flickr set to hide those details (which is probably not the problem as YOU would still be able to see them) or a program you've used to edit it has stripped it. I think I read somewhere that picasa strips it, and if you 'save for web' it will be stripped to keep the file size down as well. HTH

Default another product photo

I couldn't resist sharing this. I took this many months ago and was not happy with the glare (even though this was published in an advertisement for my friends store) so this is not my entry.

However, I really liked how I placed the accessory lids in the shot with the main product. I intend to re-shoot this in my newly made lightbox so I can control the light a bit more.

(I am so glad the forums are letting us log in again. I really missed being able to post this weekend. Kudos to those fixing the problems!)

kk-lid-trans

I shot this on a white sheet and cut it out of the background for this final result.
