Default Slow Shutter Speed

A popular assignment/thread in our previous Flickr Group was 'Slow Shutter Speed' which had some cool photos posted to it. I thought I'd move the thread over here to continue the fun!

Post your shots from your slow shutter speed experimentation below.

Rushing Water #3

I've just moved up from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR (Nikon D40) and so have been able to begin experimenting with things like control over the shutter speed. Here is one I took a couple of days ago, spinning the water into a fine gossamer over the rocks.

I am pleased with the overall flow of the water. I think weak points include blown highlights (exposure compensation or smaller apeture?), reflections from the wet rocks (polarising filter to tone them down?) and not having the rocks crystal sharp (tripod to steady the camera?).

blown highlights: yeah, a smaller aperture would do it, but so would shooting in RAW and pulling down the exposure.
reflections: depending on where the light is coming from, a polarizing filter would cut those down.
tripod: definitely. anytime your exposure is longer than about 1/30th of a second, you should have some form of stabilization.

Reedy Falls

This one was shot with a Nikon D50 and Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens set at f/22. The exposure time was 30 seconds. To me, the composition seems a bit cluttered, what with the lights reflecting and all.

Here's a closer shot of those same falls. The sun had come up a bit more bit this time, so more light was available.

Default Light dog

It´s not the best one but, I play a little bit with the shutter speed and a light to do this picture.
