This may be a stretch, BUT, how many of you get a happy-good feeling when you light the bonfire out back after a long day? Pull out the cozy chair and sip a beer after a tasty meal! Oh, how good!

Well, that is how I felt last night when we started the fire and sat back to relax with great conversation.

The embers were flyin'!

Bonfire!

Default Assignment: Affirmative

Here's my first submission ever! Hopefully I'll do this right. I couldn't think of what to do for this and as I was walking back inside after taking my dogs out, I saw one of my gnomes with his thumbs up (or pointing at himself....but it's a thumbs up today) and we have these huge mushrooms growing in our front yard so I decided to give it a go.

Affirmative -adj.: positive; not negative; expecting the best

Affirmative -adj.: positive; not negative; expecting the best

The horseshoe and the (hidden) cicada...

"One reputed origin of the tradition of lucky horseshoes is the story of Saint Dunstan and the Devil. Dunstan, who became the Archbishop of Canterbury in AD 959, was a blacksmith by trade. The story relates that he once nailed a horseshoe to the Devil's hoof when he was asked to reshoe the Devil's hoof. This caused the Devil great pain, and Dunstan only agreed to remove the shoe and release the Devil after the Devil promised never to enter a place where a horseshoe is hung over the door."

"In China the phrase 'to shed off the golden cicada skin ' is the poetic name of the tactic of using deception to escape danger."

What better way to express something positive than two symbols that by their very definitions are expecting the best for those around them?

Default Assignment - Affirmation!

I spent a lot of time thinking about "affirmation!" I came up with a few ideas. I chose this photo for the assignment.

This is a co-worker of mine. He and his wife found out a few months ago that they are expecting their first baby. Recently he learned that it will be a boy. He now proudly displays the first picture of his baby on his desk at work - the one that affirms that it's a boy.

This young man hasn't stopped smiling since he found out he's going to be a daddy, and I don't believe his feet have touch the ground in all that time. To me, his smile, and the look in his eyes whenever he talks about his future family are a real "affirmation!"

It's a Boy!

Default Not for assignment - Forever mami's little girl

I wanted to share this photo with you because it is special to me. I was at my parent's house on Sunday afternoon, still thinking about this week's assignment. Suddenly, I found myself staring at my 76-year-old mother. She looked so happy, despite the fact that she was standing over a hot stove. She was making her little girl (me - a woman in her late 40s) one of her favorite treats. That moment - like so many others involving my parents - was for me an affirmation that no matter how old I get to be, my parents will always love me, and I will forever be mami and papi's little girl. I have to tell you - it's a wonderfully comforting feeling at any age!

Forever mami's little girl

Default Assignment: Affirmative!

Downtown Tucson

Got all your marbles? That's a good question after an unfortunate accident Saturday evening. The 4-wheel drive truck I was a passenger in slipped into a deep rut and came to an abrupt halt. My head busted the windshield. But all is well and I "got all my marbles"! It is ironic that I took the photo Friday morning on a photo walk downtown with a friend.
