X-tych (23 Jul - 6 Aug)

This week's assignment is X-tych (diptych, triptych or anything up to 7 pictures formed into a single image with multiple panels). That means a multifaceted image like this one from Nicole:



Think about the individual images and the overall story created by how they relate together. Here are some links that will give you helpful information:

Here are the rules:

1. The image you submit should be taken between the July 23 (when it was announced) and August 6 (up until one of the moderators closes the the mini-contest).

2. EXIF data needs to be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

3. Your post must include "Assignment: X-tych" to show your permission to count it for the contest.

4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above).

5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (640px on the longest side).

For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).

The contest for the following week will be "Auto-mode" - can you create an excellent photo using the auto setting on your camera and without any post-processing?

Well done, and a good example. It strikes me that EXIF data might be problematic for many people this week as the results will almost certainly have been through a post-processing program. Your solution, with details of each picture, is helpful... and I can check the date back on your Flickr account.

They were keeping an eye on me as I sat down, then they went back to napping.
I guess we could call this a Duck-tych

When I headed to the airport on the 27th it wasn't to take photos for this assignment. I was just going to shoot the RC planes for their club website.

While I was there a Father and Son decided to take off for a dog fight. I was tracking the Father's plane (with the streamer) across the sky and shooting when the Son's plane came into frame. The next thing I hear is a loud POP as the Son's plane crashed into the Father's plane in mid air. These little planes really move and it happened so fast I wasn't even sure I had caught it until I looked at the LCD screen after the two planes had been picked up out of the wheat field by the pilots.

They may look small in these photos but these two planes have identical construction (in fact the Son made them both) and the wing spans are somewhere between 4 1/2 and 5 feet wide. The Son's plane will fly again but the Father's plane was a total loss.



My finished triptych has no data of it's own I seem to have lost it all while building the triptych. Is there anyway to keep from loosing that while creating these? I have uploaded the 3 frames seperatly onto my flickr page so that you can see the data on each, however they are all the same (well except for the time).

This is my latest diptych. Sometimes I just get inspired to play with putting a few pictures together to create that single image. That's actually why I decided to do diptychs in my reading project. The outside of a book doesn't seem enough, and the inside ignores the coverart (which shouldn't be ignored since it's lead me to pick some really great books!)
