no, a smaller aperture will produce a sharper picture.

from the DPS blog entry about pin hole cameras

Fig 1.1.7 - A large hole allows a greater variety of angles of reflected light from a particular part of the tree to pass through onto the projection. This means that much light from neighbouring parts of the tree overlap each other. This results in lower contrast and a blurry image. The benefit however, is that more light can get through and the projected image is brighter.
so, f/8 was a good place to start at, and it looks like you got a nice, sharp picture of the moon

Default Low light shot

IMG_0766

Missed the deadline unfortunately but here's one I took last week. I like this shot because there are so many different colours from the different lights and surfaces being lit.

Tell me about it. Here on the west coast (Calif), it's only 7 p.m. on the 21st. I thought we had through the 21st to enter...???? Last week, entries were accepted well past the deadline. I don't get it.

Anyway, here is my entry, accept it or not.

Assignment: Low Light/Night photography ... taken in my dining room, early evening. Wedding rings laid upon historic newspaper article. Shot with a point and shoot (a Canon S3 IS, no less, which does abysmal indoors). No flash. Considerable post-processing to lighten, clarify and selectively color.

California makes history: May 15, 2008.

Equality, in black and white ... and golden.

Because DPS is a global community, it is hard to set a fixed time. Instead of trying to be precise about exactly when the contest period starts and ends (which would require a moderator to ensure they were around to begin and end things) the rule is that the contest starts when the new assignment goes up and ends about a week later when one of the Mods draws a line under it.

If you want to be sure that you don't miss the deadline, either move to New Zealand (where they were well into Thursday when the contest was closed) or aim to get your post in by Tuesday.

Don't forget that you can start your preparations early - you can already be taking your "from the hip" shots and they will be valid entries even if you can't post them until next Wednesday.
