there's seveal things that bother me about this comment. however, the first and MOST important. this is not a critique thread! it's one thing to say you like someone's capture, it's another thing to use any other form of critique here. it's not the place. The mods/judges are the ones to decide which shots meet the assignment guidelines and which ones do not.

this is harsh and uncalled for.

just my two cents.

I've deleted the comment you refer to because, apart from the short (and unduly harsh) comment you noted, it also quoted an earlier picture. We introduced a "no picture quoting" rule a few weeks back, which I have clarified in the first post of this thread.

One of the reasons for that was to keep the job managable for the moderators, who sort through all eligible entries and select the contest winners in time for the weekly write up. We haven't discussed if "low light" includes pictures where the amount of light entering the camera was reduced by a combination of fast shutter speed, low ISO and small aperture but I can see that this might be a valid approach, especially if it produces an eye-catching result.

Be creative (although it will help if you explain your approach and what you learnt or had to take into account when taking the shot).

thank you, as always, Wulf. Your last sentence really stands out to me. It embodies, IMHO, the spirit of DPS. you are a gentleman and a scholar, sir.

Default Assignment: Low Light/Night photography

After capturing a few nice shots on my dock, I quickly logged on to find out the current assignment. To my delight, it fits...doesn't happen too often. Here's my submission:

Nightdock0048

Second choice, not for assignment.

I'm posting this image for reference only as an example of a creative night shot.

I was not taken by me, rather a co-worker that had just bought a Canon PowerShot S70. This was taken with a f/2.8 aperture and a 15 second shutter. The light source was an outdoor light above and to the left of the door.
