Default Wind

In our assignment suggestion thread Rory came up with the topic of 'Wind'.

I like it as a topic as it's one of those things that one can't actually see but that certainly can have an impact.

So - see what you can do with this one and post your 'wind' photos below.

awesome shot, rachel!

did you do any post-processing, or is that just a long exposure? I love the contrast and the movement.

Thanks guys!! Gosh - it is so funny - the pics you sometimes think are crappy are the ones that people seem to like. I hadn't even planned on flickring this pic until I was trying to think of something "windy" to post here...

I did do a couple of things in Photoshop to this img... First I did an auto level, that brought the colors our a bit more than it was but nothing drastic. Then I applied an unsharp mask but I cannot remember the settings... Then I used the diffuse glow filter (I love that sometimes). The glow filter softens it a bit and I just liked the results after I applied it so I left it.

I didn't do anything to alter the image other than that. It was a longer exposure but I can't figure out how to tell you what it was. maybe if someone knows how to read the properties on the pic then they can tell us...haha. After all, I'm still a newbie to all this!

Thanks again.

This one came straight off the camera:

I was walking back after taking some pictures and decided to snap one more as I crossed a road, because the colours were appealing. I didn't want to get run over and so went for a quick approach (I'm not sure that I even bothered looking down the viewfinder!).

On downloading to my computer I saw that not only had I captured some of the colours of a November morning but that I also had some flying leaves, showing the blustery wind that day. In this case, I think that the feeling of the shot is enhanced by the skewiff angle and, arguably, even by the underexposed foreground.
