This week: Members that have been around here for a few years will fondly remember Digidave's series of "Classic Rock Challenges". So let's bring a form of it back this week with an homage to The Beatles and a big thanks to dPS' resident "Class Clown".
So our next assignment is "The Beatles". Take one of their song titles and use it as the basis of your picture. Include the name of the song you chose as well as the usual exif info and date taken. The list is enormous, so you have a lot from which to choose. Once you decide, take the time to plan your shot. Remember, all the technical aspects count as much as the creative ones. List of titles No pic from me this week. I'm dealing with the holidays and visiting family as well as my daughter's January wedding. My camera is barely getting a workout! As always, rules: Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken on or between the 30th of November to the 14th of December 2011. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT (3AM EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "The Beatles" as the title or in the text (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog the following week (EST) or here. Next week: "It's the Holiday Season" - December is a month of holidays and celebrations. Because we are all so busy, this is a rather open assignment. Choose what makes you feel this time of the year means to you, whether serious or fun, sentimental or commercial, colorful or somber. Your choice, but take the time to self-critique your shot by asking yourself a few questions: 1. Does my picture get across the mood I want to convey to the viewer? Is it interesting enough to give it more than a passing glance? Would a change of angle or perspective make a difference? 2. Does the lighting help your subject? If it's too light or too dark, a little editing may help, but if it appears flat or has blown highlights, rethink how you lit your subject. 3. How's the composition? After focusing on the main subject, does you eye travel around the rest of the image? |

"Free as a Bird" by the Beatles
When I was running through the song titles, I saw this one and immediately thought of a nearby turkey farm, and thought I might go for a slightly controversial shot. But when I got there, all the cages were strangely empty. Then it dawned on me what time of year it is... Doh ! So instead, this is my submission. It might make you remember the film "Chicken Run", or perhaps invoke feelings of being imprisoned - wishing you too had wings ? Reason: another go at embedding image and corrected my Beatles discography error ! |

"Lend me your comb" 1963
My sis and I were just fooling around two nights ago in the dark (pitch black actually, so the auto focus wouldn't work) and I got a couple of good shots. When I saw the Beatles's song with this title, I was thrilled. ![]() Takrn Dec 5, 2011 Nikon D3100 35mm f1.8 lens f/2 ISO 400 1/13 secs flash fired Exposure 0
