This week: The holiday season is just around the corner and at this time of year, in between the food, gifts, shopping, and decorating, we need to stop for a moment and consider some meaningful aspects of our lives. So this next assignment is simple: "Gratitude". What are you grateful for?
For me? Fun with family. ![]() f/5.0, 1/1000, ISO 400, 159mm As always, rules: Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken on or between the 16th to the 30th of November 2011. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT (3AM EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "Gratitude" as the title or in the text (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog the following week (EST) or here. Next week: "The Four Elements". You all know the four basic elements: water, earth, fire and air. Choose two or more for your assignment this week. They do not need to be the main subject of your shot if you don't want them to be, but it should be integral to your image. For example, I chose fire (the lit cigarette) and air (the wafting smoke) are two of the for in this shot. They are not the main subject, but they both add to the mood. Fire and Air

I didn't have to think too long this week about what I'm thankful for. The answer was really easy- The thing that I'm most thankful for is, God's love. And the Bible.
Without them, I don't know what I would do. ![]() Exif Data- Taken on November 21, 2011 Camera Nikon Coolpix S3000 Exposure 0.1 sec (1/10) Aperture f/4.8 Focal Length 9.8 mm ISO Speed 80 Exposure Bias -0.7 EV Flash Off, Did not fire I did do a little processing to it. I did some little tweaks, like a minor crop and color contrast. But mainly, I blurred out everything except the verse that I wanted to stand out. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

A picture that can’t tell it’s own story, in my estimation, is not much of a picture. The trick is for the photographer to be skilled enough to take such a picture. That is part of why I have joined all of you, so that perhaps you would help me sharpen my skills.
There is a cemetery near me where there are several hundred Civil War soldiers buried, both Union and Confederate. They fought for what they believed. And we show our GRATITUDE to them and all the other American Soldiers who ever died defending what we believe. Taken 11/23/11 Camera: Kodak Z650 Mode, Auto exposure and focus with flash turned off. |

This holiday season I would like to take a minute to think about how grateful I am for the children in my life. I am a godmother, an aunt & a friend to many little ones. Children constantly remind me how precious life is & how wonderful it is to leave the day to day stressors at the door, and just be carefree
For this, I am grateful...![]() Camera: 5d Mark II Lens: 35mm, 1.4 ISO: 320 f/2.0 Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec Date: 11/19/11
