These macro shots look great! I was too scared to get that close to my subject. I noticed this on a hike at the camp I work/live at the other day, and today I got the courage to shoot it. Setting up the speedlight was kind of scary, but it was worth it (no stings).

I'm not sure what the issue was with these guys, but they were not impressed with each other... I feel a little guilty about using flash here, but the shot was taken at around 10:30 pm EST and I didn't have any other choice. I did have the intensity turned down as far as I could get away with, so hopefully I didn't blind anyone. Shot using a +3 and a +2 closeup filter, handheld. I'm actually very suprised that I was able to get a decent shot under these conditions.

Default Not For Assignment

This was the second shot I considered for the assignment. Shot at the same time, different spider. I like the detail in this shot better, but in the end it came down to the reflection across this frame, the somewhat annoying preference of spiders to hang out where there are a lot of dead insects (go figure), and the fact that the shot of the two fighting is a little more interesting, to me anyway...
