"ND" is simply short for "nuetral density". They are measured by the lens diameter of the camera. They also come in different levels of darkness.They generally screw on an extension tube that screws on your camera or maybe even on your lens itself. It's like your camera wearing sunglasses. It fools your camera into thinking its darker outside than it really is, so you can use a longer shutter speed enableing someone to take photos of slow moving or silky water of mountain streams or waterfalls etc. Without a filter like this you would be forced to take the same photo late evening to achieve the same results. Check a camera dealer to see if your camera can use these. I hope this helps and good luck !!!
