Default ***Assignment: "The Eighties" June 23 - July 7

Well then! Saralonde is off having a well earned break this week, it's a shame because I'm almost certain that she would have a BRILLIANT entry for this week's assignment, "The Eighties" We almost all remember them? Some of may have blocked them out? You're welcome to recreate the 80's any way you see fit.. I want to see glam, big hair, bad lighting and terrible make-up! (Or any combo of all of them!) in your photos, posted in this thread.

To me, growing up in the 80's was all about my little brothers and mucking about on the farm... This is us, taken on an 80's camera in 80's clothes with our 80's puppy in the bottom right corner (just!) -- See, it's not all about big hair and spandex!.. have fun!

As always, rules:

Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there.

1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 23rd of June and the 7th of July. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post!

2. Your post must include "Assignment: The Eighties" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry).

3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you.

5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side). (If it's wider than the image above, it's disqualified)

6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest.

For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).

7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here.

Next week: We have something special - The winner of the next assignment will grab themselves a great little G-Tech Mobile Drive! So, I've made the topic somehow related, and it is "On The Go" ..so, anything that says "on the go" to you.. a business man running late for work, looking at his watch.. A fast little child on a bicycle.. A horse running into the distance having bitten your hand while you fed him? (OK, maybe not, but you get the point!) I will post it to anywhere that it's legal to do so... [pretty much all welcome to enter!] - Details next Wednesday!

Have fun!
Sime

Default Not for Entry

Not my entry, as I was the model and not the photographer (not to mention it's way outside the time frame) but...

Here is '80s me:

Photobucket

Must've been '87...maybe '88. The late '80s, if you will.

Default "Ipods"

Haha.. Im 23 and my sisters are "teens," we were walking around the park listening to their Ipods and my 16 yr old sister says to me, "you know what would be really embarrassing? If we were walking around with those portable cd players. Those things are HUGE!.. " and so I said, "Wanna know something funny? Those used to be our Ipods." and she just laughed but got the point. At first I felt so old but I take care of Senior Citizens and I get to talking to them and think.. "I bet they had it worse but in their generation, whatever they used as their Ipods, they considered their "Ipod" cool just like us and every generation after them. Its pretty crazy and I loooove this assignment. It gives me a challenge but I don't know if I will be able to full fill this assignment this week. I sure am trying!

this is sooooo my favorite so far! I used to say that all the time even with ipods and dvds and everything! ahh.. such a wonderful subject. brings back memories of growing up as a child and seeing the rents and the life they had.

You're such a babe! I graduated from high school in 87! Sadly, even though my teenage years were the 80's I am stumped about what to photograph...I was really hoping Boy George could somehow make an appearance...maybe I will pull out and dust off the dozens of LPs that are stored in my basement!
