"Tell Me a Story". Look for something meaningful in your life. It could be an object in your home, a place, etc. Perhaps something from your childhood, an item from your family or a friend, or a place you went to that has special meaning to you. Use what you know to photograph it and, if you want, write a short few lines giving it's background and why it means so much. The written story is optional, it's just a chance to get to know something about each other. Try to make your image interesting, so others will want to know the story behind it.
![]() My story: My parents got married very quietly with a simple ceremony attended by only a few close friends. They received three wedding gifts, one of which was this clock. When I was very little, my German grandmother sent me two tiny gray feathers from her pet bird. They sat just inside the rim of the clock face. I used to love to see them there and marvel at their delicate fragility. One day I discovered they were gone. Apparently the housecleaner opened up the clock while dusting, didn't notice as they fluttered to the ground and then swept them up. Funny the things you remember from when you were a child. As always, rules: Please note the change in closing time as well as the size limit. Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 17th of March and the 31st of March. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "Assignment: Tell Me a Story" " (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here. Next assignment: "Spring/Fall" The change of seasons is upon us. Depending upon which hemisphere you live, it is getting warmer or colder. Show us an example of how it is changing in your area. Is there something different besides falling leaves and flowers? |

![]() My entry for this assignment is about me. I am a long time computer guru/nerd - always have been, and still am . My latest work in the IT field has been security related.Obviously this is a composite of six images, the EXIF on Flickr is for the base image, but all six were taken with the same settings. Camera: Pentax K100D Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160) Aperture: f/11.0 Focal Length: 40 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Date and Time (Original): 2010:03:23 10:04:23 I used four studio strobes on this, two bare white lightning 5000's on full power to light the seamless, two more at f/6.3 with large softboxes to light me. I also had a Vivitar 285hv on full power to make sure the floor under me was exposed to white. Processed using GIMP with layers for each image and masks to blend the layers together.

This statue of a chinese fisherman was my Nana's. She gave it to me when she passed on. The lesson she taught me with it will stay with me for my lifetime. The lesson of course..."Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I hope I can pass this lesson on to my children and their children.

Border Reiver c1580
![]() Camera: Sony DSLR-A350 Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60) Aperture: f/2.8 Focal Length: 100 mm ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire Exposure Program: Manual Date and Time (Original): 2010:03:24 16:10 PP in Lightroom. "The one indisputable fact concerning the Anglo Scottish Border Reivers was their supreme ability in the arts of theft, murder, blackmail, rustling and guerilla warfare. A lifestyle which required spe******t equipment. The fully equipped Reiver represented an elite light cavalryman, capable of navigating rough terrain at night with practiced stealth, and when required implementing deadly force." Photo is of an 85mm metal kit by Border Miniatures that my wife bought me a few years ago. Another of my hobbies is figure modelling, but this one is special as family folklore has always intimated that we are descended from one of the Reiver clans. The family name and historical location certainly support this, but aside from being a bit 'opportunistic' in general, there's no hard evidence

assignment | tell me a story
My mother left England when she was thirteen, Her dad gave her this watch. At some point it stopped working and went into a box. Recently mum found that box and sent the watch to me to keep. I guess now that I have had it fixed, I will wait until my boy is old enough to understand and give it to him - we've got a few years to go there. ![]() Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160) Aperture: f/8.0 Focal Length: 50 mm ISO Speed: 100 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: On, Fired
