Smile My assignment-Minimalism

I have never done a picture like this. It was very fun. I hope it fits the assignment.

So do they have to be posted BEFORE the end date in the first post or what? I'm so confused now... /sigh (trust me it's not hard to do!)

I was merely confused by the semantics. Is a "mini-contest" the same as a "weekly assignment"?

You can find the winners on the front page of the weekly blog. The latest of which you can see here. This Week in Digital Photography School Forums

It started out as a weekly assignment. There was a different subject chosen for it each week. Then the Administrative team decided it would be a cool idea to have a contest within the weekly assignment. So, you can add old pictures that you feel pertain to the assignment if you wish, but they won't be included in the contest. That is why they ask that you include the "Assignment: Eyes" in the post somewhere & have the EXIF data intact. They can then be assured that the picture was taken specifically for the contest. Some people even add pictures that could be in the mini-contest but opt out of it for various reasons.

Thanks for explaining. I saw that something called "mini contest" was closed, so I figured that my photo for the "assignment" would still count. The time lag (I technically did post mid-day on 1/31, which was supposed to be the last day of the contest) and the lack of consistency in the vocabulary are confusing to those of us who are new around here.....

There is some discussion going on about how it works - as you can imagine, it is quite an effort for the moderators to trawl through 40+ pages and pick out their choices for inclusion on the DPS blog. At the moment, there are things that are less than optimal but it does generate a lot of interest and seems to prompt people to stretch themselves to new things, whether experienced photographers or relative beginners.

The contest end is announced sometime on the Wednesday after it was started. We don't promise a precise time - the fuzziness allows a few people to slip in right at the end although it is recommended to get in earlier. The official end of the contest is the post, normally from NaturesPixel or sometimes Sime that states the contest is over.

The assignment remains open indefinitely but pictures after that pivotal post won't be included in the shortlisting.

Default First try

Well, it took the account activation long enough to come, but since I already went to shoot for this assignment, here's my take:
Orange Streetlight
Exif on Flickr.

I think if I'd have shot from afar using a long focus lens, I could have made it even more minimal (less depth). What do you think?

There were problems earlier in the week with e-mail notifications. Not to worry, there will plenty more to come.

The farther away you are, the greater the depth of field. No matter what lens you use.

I'm talking about the apearance of flatness, not DoF.
