Default Good Use of DOF

This weeks assignment is all about DOF ( depth of field)
whether it is a shallow DOF or a greater DOF... make sure it works and think about what you are trying to achieve...

Shallow DOF..

Large DOF

Exif data should still be intact if you wish to participate in the mini contest.... also the image in question should be taken with in the 9th Jan -22nd Jan 2008

next weeks assignment will be "Minimalism"

Default All Screwed Up!

Not for Assignment
Assignment DOF
I shot this using a +1 and a +4 diopter Macro add on filter. This allows for a nice magnification shot with a very shallow DOF. Adding the +2 filter, caused the DOF to become too shallow to tell what was being photographed. This set-up (all 3 macro filters in addition to an 8 diopter Magnifying glass), is what I'm experimenting with for my "Flakey Challenge" on the Games and Challenges page. It's ideal for shooting snowflakes or any other subject less than 1/2 mm in depth. Anyone interested? See the Flakey Challenge thread. My shots are not that great, but Jiminy Clickit has some wonderful images he's been working on. Thanks and good luck.

The Dragonfly
I wanted this to look like he is coming in for a landing and focus on the head of this metal dragonfly. How I wish I could capture a real one... Nikon D40

Assignment: Good use of DOF
This one was so much fun to do. I love DOF shots!! I tried very hard to make sure that my main focus object was clear and then the leaves and the small branch still visible but just out of focus then the branches on the ground were hardly visible at all yet you could still make them out. I sure hope it all worked the way I think it did. Lots of fun in this group. SO many Amazing shots on here!!
