Default Assignment: Good Use of DOF

I'm submitting 2 images. Neither can be used for the contest obviously b/c I'm way out of the time frame.

The first image...since I am new at this I hope you out there can tell me if this is a true use of DOF. There are three levels 1. The fore ground, 2. the middle and 3. the sky. Is this called "large dof?" This was taken at the Pueblo Grand ruins in Phoenix, AZ. It's a doorway looking at another doorway that was filled in for some unknown reason.

I just took this today, but I couldn't resist sharing these teeny tiny turtles that I found today. They were not much bigger than a quarter! So cute!
