Sony just released the Sony Alphas A200 DSLR (http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog/reviews/sony/sony_alpha_a200.php).

10MP, bigger LCD, CCD and faster burst mode than the A100.

More impressive is that it's just $700 USD bundled with one lens and $900 USD with two. The A100 was $900 - body only.

I bought a Alpha A200. I was actually searching for a A100, and couldn't find one. I saw a few 200's, so i did some research and decided to buy one. Then when i went to buy one, EVERYONE was sold out of those too!! So I went to Circuit City just to browse. I got tremendously lucky and found one. It was an open box though, bought AND returned that very day. I asked the salesman about it, but he said he couldn't lower the price because it was still brand new. I was very relentless with this guy, and was not about to give up on the last camera for sale in the area! I told him to go ask his manager how much they would lower the price. He came back and said they would take 90 bucks off, only if I bought the two year warranty which would have made it almost $100 dollars more than retail. I told him I would only take it if it was under a certain price. He came back after talking with the boss again and he told me I could have it for $429!!! IT blew me away. But don't worry....I still bought the 2 year warranty just in case. I never knew you could haggle in American retail stores..

I got an A200 (my first dSLR) and couldn't be happier. When I decided to buy a dSLR I was quite sure to stick to the traditional Nikon or Canon choices, but a few very positive reviews of the A200 changed my mind; some features like built-in image stabilization made the decision easier.

I was reading this month's issue of Practical Photography (a very popular mag in the UK and here in Norway) and this camera got higher rates than the other camera they reviewed in that issue, a Nikon D60 (even though the latter was the one in the cover, of course). Sweet!

Now I'm off to eBay, gotta get a nice, fast Minolta 50mm for it ;)
