Yes, back from the holidays, it's What Would You Do, the post-processing thread. If you're new to the forums in '08, or just new to the WWYD threads, the rules are simple. There's a photo in this post. You use the photo and edit it however you want, to show what you would do with this photo. Then come back to this thread, post your result and the steps that you took to create it. That way, we all get to learn from what you're showing us.
This week's photo is from windrider86 and is of her daughter's dogs. Now, to alleviate any fears, they are not trying to eat each other, and the little Chihuahua is actually the boss ;)

If you would like your photo to be featured in the WWYD threads, just drop me a PM with a link to the medium and large sizes of the image. Simple as that. And I'm always looking for photos to use, so please, don't be shy!
Now, let's see what you would do!

My goodness I guess everyone is having the same problem that I did with this one

Hi windrider,
I like this shot (now that I know the little dog isn't the big dog's "Kibble"). I have no idea how to improve this shot and since I don't have Photoshop, I can't even see what it would look like in a snowglobe. Lol. Here's the best "twist" I could come up with.

Just out of curiosity, what kinds of dogs are those?

Cruz Bentley is a Straffordhsire Terrier commonly known to the world as a pit bull and Roddy Weiler is a chiahuahua.
Its quite hilarious to watch the little boss the big one around. Cruz totally ruins the myth of the evil pit bull

all right then its 2 a.m. and i cant sleep so I played with my own image. This is my first attempt at aditing anything in photosop, which by the way is very confusing to me. All I did was apply one of the effects in the filters. Seems to be a painting of sort.

I decided to focus on the little one because the big one kept losing so much definition in my various processing ideas that after a while I couldn't tell what it was any longer. :)
What I did (in PSP XI):
-Cropped out the big dog
-Painted out the branches, etc.
-Adjusted histogram midtones (-50)
-Applied Tiles texture
-Added frame

It's been a tough one this week! Good to see a few responses. :) I like what you did Teewinot since I was having similar problems in trying to do an edit.

I decided to finally do one of these. As a matter of fact, this is the very first photograph that I've done any kind of major editting to as I've been rather intimidated by layers.
Here it is:
http://Taallyn.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p879448316.jpg
Process in PSE 5:
1) Created a duplicate layer.
2) Selected the dogs in the layer.
3) Used the Shadows and Highlights tool to lighten the shadows and dark areas.
4) Applied base Noise Reduction.
5) Created a duplicate layer.
6) Inverted the selection so the snow was selected.
7) Used Shadows and Highlights to recover some of the detail in the ground.
8) Flattened the layers.
9) Cloned out the branches. It was particularly difficult on the large dog.
10) Saved progress. ;)
11) Added a small highlight to the smaller dog's eye so the face wasn't completely black.
12) Selected the background, i.e. everything except the dogs.
13) Applied the Underpaint filter and played with the settings until I liked them.
14) Inverted the selection so the dogs were selected.
15) Applied the Pallet Knife filter and adjusted the settings until I liked the effect. Basically, I tried to retain as much of the photographic quality of the dogs while making them pop a bit from the background.
16) Saved the progress. ;)

Hello all, this is my first ever post so there fore my first go at this.
From this

What i did was:
Duplicate the layer
Invert top layer
Blend the 2 layers by mixing the white and black between the 2 in luminosity's
Merge the 2 layers
Colour range select the dogs hair
Blur this a little with Smart Blur
Then increase saturation of individual colours like red and blue
and to finish change the brightness
Hope its an ok post.

Okay .... so here is what I did:
1. Lightened the photo
2. Warmed the colors
3. Increased color saturation
4. Cloned out the twig (or at least tried too!)
5. Applied Edge Preserving Smooth
6. Applied Posterizing
7. Applied texture affects to the whitest snow
8. Took a long break and watched a movie with my husband
9. Applied Charcoal affect
10. I ended up with some funky, thick white lines that I cloned out.

Using Picasa I desaturated, gave a slight tint, a hint of glow, the merest suggestion of a sharpen and rounded it off with a dash of soft focus.
