And lo, 'tis the obligatory mirror self-portrait shot. Someday, I will take the time to take a picture of myself using the timer rather than a mirror. But this is not that day! :)

Sometimes it is so strange seeing pictures of myself. I guess because I am normally taking the pictures... I did recently try some self portraits just for fun but I used my cybershot since its easier to handhold and snap away at arms length.

Here's one from yesterday. In the evening I was browsing a photography magazine round at a friend's house where it talked about a radial drop off on focussing being characteristic of holga cameras, so I applied that (and a bit of manipulation of the colour curves).

It's still not great (I could do with a better model for one thing!) but I like the overall effect.

This is what I came up with while bored at work today. They didn't turn out bad but I'm sure it can be done better. Probably with a remote so I don't have to run from the loft down to get into the picture.. :)

Taken using, the timer on my Canon XT, tripod, Walmart floor lamp for lighting, and lots of trial and error.

This is a more collaborative portrait. I was allowing my daughter to shoot some pictures on the tripod when she plopped it down right in front of me. Slow speed, plus bored Daddy, equaled grabbing the focus ring and giving it a twist.

this is the most recent self-portrait i've taken. i messed with it quite a bit, as the original was done in colour. it makes me laugh thinking of setting the timer and running to sit down and look natural. :)

I was waiting on some friends to arrive after I got my new flash...so I did some experimenting. I'm like you kj (by the way loved your shot!) I felt pretty silly trying to get "posed" in time for the camera. I think I like it better than someone else taking my pic though.

OK, here's the obligatory "self-portrait with camera" shot. The little Nikon S1 I used for the photo introduced some noise in post-processing. Also, I'd been letting my beard grow, and hadn't realized how ancient it made me look. It got trimmed the very next day.

I have two brothers who look just like me (we're not triplets, just resemble each other very closely. Once when I shaved the beard, she got all upset because she said I looked too much like my brothers, and she didn't marry either of them.

You know, I didn't plan the arm/stairwell thing on purpose, but you're right - it does work. As for the lighting, I'm pleased with how it turned out - kept the green couch rather beige so it blended well with the rest of the colours.

Ok i didn't take this pic, but a friend did. I set it to continuous shooting mode and told my friend to keep taking pictures. Added a little soft focus and glow via Picasa. Also cropped it to put myself on the 'rule of thirds' grid line. Turned out pretty well, I think, for him being a non-photographer. He said he felt comfortable with the D40 too.

I had just finished getting ready to go to my sister's for a visit and decided to stick my head out the window with the camera in my face, since I was freshly coiffed and everything. I closed my eyes to try to make my face relax and snap the picture right after opening my eyes looking towards the sun. I think it turned out nice, if not a little overexposed. Now I need to get some pics of my kids like this.

I don't like taking pictures of myself. However, my boyfriend and I try to ninja-photo each other when we're out shooting together. This time I caught him and let him get a "real" picture of me. Then I nabbed it from him and did some post-processing on it.

Like many I prefer to be behind the camera but I love playing with my new mobile phone camera lol.

This was taken with my K800i Sony Ericson which has a Cybershot 3.2 on it.

I then with paintshop pro X cropped image, duplicated the layer then gaussian blur 12.5 which I then overlayed, and then i used hue and saturation/colourised, to change to black and white then voila. I am still so new to all this so critique very welcome.

The way that people show full size images is by hosting them on another site such as Flickr, Zooomr, Photobucket, etc. If you host your pictures on these sites, they give you the code to insert your picture into the thread. You can read the FAQs (http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_img) for more info on how to insert pictures into the threads using those sites. And, of course, welcome :)

This is a photo taken by my beautiful wife on a recent holiday to New Zealand. This only my 3rd post, just getting the hang of it. Look forward to participating regularly from now on.
P.S. How do I load an image so that the full size image appears rather than just a thumbnail?

I find it easier to just throw a pic up on myspace since its free and right clicking the image location. just remember the size prefrences for this site... Ibelieve its 600 wide?

taken last summer while camping, this was actually a Polaroid 600 print, scanned and tweaked. i like to call this pose '2 bottles of gin and gallon of juice later'. the only motor i was operating that day was the air pump for that comfy mattress... it was a really good weekend and i got many great photos, but in the end the Polaroid prints were surprisingly some of the best! in this one the middle ground is very saturated, yet there is still detail in trees and you can see the fur on my legs! there is even a refection of the trees above, in that finely waxed radiant red paint!

So, I've only been on here a couple of weeks and here I am showing myself to the world. This is the first self portrait picture I've taken and I got it by chance. The laptop was booting and I saw my reflection in the screen and had the camera in my hand so pressed the button... It is quite appropriate as I spend a good proportion of my time staring at a computer screen.

Let me know what you think... about the picture, not the ugly mug in it :p

lol you have to use the images tag for most forums which are http://www.someurl.com/thisismypictureandimlookingsexyoyeah.jpg

this are the tags some url also you have to upload your pictures, i know this might sound stupid but some people try to link the picture from their computers. you gotta remember you computer is not a server unless you make it one, there for you have to upload the images you can use myspace ,deviantart, flickr or some image hosting site like www.imageshack.com hope it helps

I checked out Ansel Adams' autobiography, and in the front he has a self portrait (here for an online copy: http://www.bowers.org/anseladams/adams_selfportrait.html). I liked it a lot, so I ran out and shamelessly copied him.

But this one here is the one that REALLY defines who I am.

All of these are taken with timer and tripod or by holding my arms out as far as they can go. I have become QUEEN of taking self portraits, because I am the only 'photographer' in the family and I want my children to remember what I look like. Besides, on the off chance someone DOES take a picture of me, it is ALWAYS horrible. I am 6'0 tall and so EVERYONE (basically) is shorter than me, angles the camera UP and thus, gives me an even MORE huge double chin than I normally have. So, it's all for the best. ;-)

There. I posted a ton so I will never have to do it again.

This was before i got a remote so I looked quite silly racing over to the bike and trying to get her stood up before the camera went off. Yes there was snow and yes i ride all year long. Very carefully sometimes tho

As I've said on Flickr, the glasses have now gone (laser surgery which makes taking pictures so much easier), the beard has gone but the weight remains.

My hubby loves this picture;)
I know I looked like a fool, in my bedroom, with a black sheet up behind me, but I had fun. The light is from the windows on both sides of me.
