Well, we passed our first big milestone last week (#25), now let's keep going to see if we can keep this going to #50 and beyond.
This week we have a picture from Snapdragon. She said she was having difficulties with the harsh light and shadows, and wants to know how you would edit the picture.

Available larger (http://lh6.google.com/rightleftbroken/RunMRzjZ4nI/AAAAAAAACNw/6mDPZ4DcHQI/s800/101_0510.jpg)
The rules are simple (arrrrr...). Edit the photo and come back here and show us your results and tell us how you got those results.
If you would like your picture to be the subject of one of these threads or if you have any questions, drop me a PM. If you want your photo to be used, please send me a link to the medium and large version. It's as simple as that. I'm always looking for more contributions, so don't be shy. :)
Now, what would ye (I mean, you) do!

I'm not so good at layering and masks and thats what this needs.
1. Duplicated layer
2. erased the background
3. selectivley cloned out the shadow on her face
4. burned areas that were super white
4. tried to lighten up the one mans face
5.brightened her teeth up (They really stand out now dont they!)
6. copied onto new background and cropped to fit
7. remove noise
8.

All I can see are the words "Available larger" without a hyperlink (and no red "x").
Can you tell me where the image is hosted so I can add the domain to my firewall (assuming my firewall is blocking the image)?
Thanks :)

My firewall blocks picasaweb.google.com, hence no picture.
Sorted now.

Ok, I totally forgot to add the link to the words available larger. That's been fixed now. In case anyone else's firewall is blocking PicasaWeb, I've added the picture to a Flickr account and that one is available here (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2214/2020861391_c3bca8dfbc_o.jpg) for the duration of this WWYD.

Still so much to learn in post processing...I use photoimpact.
I used the lasso tool and selected the dark parts on the left pirates face. Then photo effects, color adjust, B&C4 x2.
Lasso tool on woman's face, photo effects, color adjust, B&C5. Lasso tool chose the white background, photo effect, lens filter, gradient filter 5. I cloned out the bar of shadow across all of the chests. I cloned and smudged the shadows on the woman's face to help even the tone. I believe that is what I would do.

so, i admit it...i spent ten whole minutes farting around with this one....:)

curved it to the extreme.....duplicated the background layer and desaturated it....hit it with a little of the find edges and blended the two....hid a layer of white between the two and erased the background stuff that bothered me across the girlie's nose and around the other subjects...oops....i decided the image went too far into the frame and added a couple of layers of a white vignette...
anyway, it works for me.....

well some really are into the real looking edits and the purity of the image is important. They don't want it to be something different afterwards just better than it was...I like seeing peoples takes on things and the way they turn things into more of an artistic version of a real photo. Not saying that its not artistic adjusting levels and cruves and hue and sat to get a better photo but i just like the out of the box thinking.

Created a new layer, filled it with color (#d89551) and set its mode to color.
Adjusted the brightness and contrast of the initial layer until it looked a little bit washed out.
Created a new layer, selected it all. Used a script-fu to distress the selection, then feathered it by 50 and filled the outer edges with white.
Lastly I decided I wanted a vignetting, so I created a new layer under the previous two. Created a oval shaped selection around the image, feathered it and filled it with black. Then I set it's mode to overlay and duplicated the layer three times.

GOAL: I've been at a bit of a loss for this one all week. I didn't want to go the "fix" route because many of you already did a great job with that. So instead I decided to antique the image, like it was a photo from the actual time of pirates. And I see Jamesc359 had a similar idea!! :D
What I did (in Paint Shop Pro XI):
-2 unsharp masks (radius 75, strength 30, clipping 5)
-Adjusted histogram midtones (-20) for contrast
-Put photo through the 'time machine' to automatically apply sepia tones and a mild vignette (cuz I was lazy)
-Added noise
-Added a 'scratchy' border
So, yarrrrrrr, that's all I could muster this week me hearties...
peeperita, i like yours!! :)

I'm so sorry but I had to try my hand at this one again. All i did was to outline the face and then did the same with the pic of Mr. Depp. Copied and pasted into selection. I then duplicated and set to mulitply and burned the sky. and oh yea, I painted the hair but didnt do such a great job at that one

Just playing around..
Dewrinkled all subjects a bit (heal tool).
Thinned center subject (liquefy tool)(added shadow layer - badly).
Added a little noise in the highlights in lab mode (select color - highlights - lab mode - add noise)
Evened out light a little bit (played with levels after selecting color range - midtones - highlights - shadows)
Made sail in background have more texture (ugly job though) by making new layer, and doing multiple gradients

Hope two tries is OK?
First: just to get the shadow off her face
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b209/IanGM/snapdragon.jpg
Then, trying for the currently fashionable (in the UK at least) white background and slightly overexposed look

Two tries are perfectly fine :) Though if you have any explanation of how you accomplished your effects that would be even better ;)

Well, the first pone is just cloneing, dodging and burning backwards and forwards til it looks right.
The second took the first, cut out the background, lightened the foreground and pasted to a whit layer.
