Pentax k110d

I'm still on my search for my future dSLR. For awhile the Nikon D40 looked good but after actually trying one in my hands found it uncomfortable. So this is the next camera that I've found. Does anyone have any reviews on it? I really like that this one takes an SD card and that it is compatible with the older pentax lenses. Anyone have any insights on this one?

I used to have a film Pentax years ago, but it had screw-on lenses which kept them from being compatible with anything. If you already own Pentax lenses, this looks like a good buy.

I was looking into getting one of these a while back. I did my research and found that Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6370961) has it for $400, which at the time seemed like an excellent deal. That was until I discovered that Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Digital-Reduction-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B000FTLSR0/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-1895213-8748452?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1194380257&sr=8-1) has the K100 for $450. I think that the image stabilization would be worth far more than the extra $50. Just me, but I'd get the K100 instead of the K110.

I didn't realize the other had image stabilization. That would be a huge bonus for me as I seem to really have the shakies lately when I'm trying to take shots. I actually found the k110d at walmart.com I was surfing their dSLR's since I work in the photo lab there and can use my 10% discount on things ordered online. Every little bit helps :) But I'd be willing to forego the discount for image stabilization.

Note that there's also the "K100 Super", which is identical to the regular K100 except


adds support for the ultrasonic ring motors in the ~$1000 DA* lenses (and presumably other upcoming lenses). Lenses still work on older models, just not using the ultrasonic (silent) focus motor.
adds anti-sensor-dust features, which have been shown to not actually work all that well.
about $100 more expensive.

It's a really good camera, although it's got some user-interface annoyances common to all entry-level dSLRs. Despite that, though, it can take great pictures.

I'm hoping that Pentax has a more major replacement entry-level camera (K200D?) up its sleeve (as part of the expected announcements at PMA in January), but even then, that's likely to start at $500 for the body, so if cost is an issue, holding out for that hope probably isn't worthwhile.

cost IS a factor, but I also don't want to buy something that in a few months I regret. I was looking in the 500-600 range. I still want to have a bit of money left over to buy a couple of gadgets to go with it :)

I have the K110d and its awesome. I to liked because of the SD Card feature. it takes great pictures. I have had it for about a year and still working good. I would recommend it to anyone. At the time i was looking at a Nikon or the Cannon Digital Rebel, but out of all of them im glad i went with this. Hope this helps.

So, at this point, the K110D and K100D (regular) are discontinued and getting a bit scarce. Meanwhile, though, the K100D Super
has gotten ridiculously cheap. You can get it from a reputable dealer with kit lens for about $435 after $100 rebate. Or, if you want to go for another lens to start instead of the kit lens, the body only is down to $375. (The K100D plus the DA 40mm for $215 is a killer combo.)

If you want, you can actually upgrade to the newer K10D (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/459620-REG/Pentax_19091_K10D_SLR_Digital_Camera.html) for only $600 after the mail in rebate. This has got a superior sensor, weather sealing - it's basically the avid amateur/pro version of the K100. If you don't work outside a lot and never plan on making bigger prints of your photos, chances are you don't need these extra features, but if you want a body that you can really grow into for only a little extra $ this is the one to get.
