This is how it came out of my camera.

And this is how I made it look with my iphoto system<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/85756543@N00/373532163/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/164/373532163_e066bd6a33.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Slugs" /></a>

The slugs have glitter inside them too. Just my feeble attempt at training my eye. This should be my Avatar, since it will reflect how quickly I will learn.

I like it, except for the blown-out background... I love the color in the smaller one, and your adjustments really brought them out!

wow, nice job with the modifications there. Looks like you did a bit of white balance modification there or just exposure balancing?
I agree about the background it's a bit of a distraction, maybe some cropping and possibly even rotation before cropping would minimize the blank background or take it out entirely.

Hey, Oni

"...rescue, reform, and regurgitate?" Ladies first! Looks like you have a handle on what you want this to be, so only if you hit a brick wall would I ask for a turn at it. Go for it! (Does iPhoto have a clone tool, like if you wanted to add grass in the white area?)

I like the subject! I had a go at removing non grass bits and tweaking levels and colours (colour balance, added more green)

Oh dear, here is where I strut my stupidity. "Over-blown background" means I made it too white? Not sure when or how to effectively use the white balance vs the exposure balance.

Does iPhoto have a clone tool to add grass? I think it does....where is that manual? Being a rookie in cyberspace, I find my iMac to be like driving a Porsche. I am always finding higher gears, but have no idea of its performance potential and still have my training wheels and curb feelers on.

In this photo I adjusted my Canon Power Shot S2 IS compression setting to superfine and played in Macro and Super Macro. Had some focus trouble and those slugs weren't stampeding THAT fast!

I wanted to show the highly textured moss with its widely varying colors from green-yellow to brown-black. And I am not much of a slug wrangler either. These two were constantly slipping out of their perfect composition position and would NEVER smile for the camera. However, they did get excited when instead of saying, "cheese", I said..... "think salt!"

I very much like this last edit, the colors and how the snails came out is just grand. Not to mention the wonderful write-up.. :)

Oni,

You're a pistol . . . SALT?! Oh, the humanity!

Aside from snail abuse, you really do know what you're doing, whether you know it or not. Trust your inner Porsche. You wrangled a winner. The look of panic in the small one's eyes is priceless. Shoot on!
