Lately when I press the shutter button down the camera will not snap the picture. It will focus, but for some reason it doesn't always take the picture. I was wondering if there was a mechanical problem or maybe something I'm doing wrong?
Currently I'm going back through the manual to make sure I have my settings correct and that it isn't something I messed up with there. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thank you :)

Desktop,
Thanks for sharing your issue with using DSC H2. I am also facing same problem at least in some scenario. According to my observation it struggles to take pictures in low light, macro when subject is not stable and sometimes while using the flash.
But I am not sure what is exact cause for this. I dont face this very much frequently. What is your observation, in which scenario you struggle to take pictures?

Hi Pala. Thanks for the reply :)
Right now I'm going through the Sony White Paper - an awesome in-depth tutorial on using the H series. I'm not sure if anyone here knows about this or not, but here's the link (http://www.aakatz.com/whitepaper/).
This is helping me to better understand what is going on with this camera. Initially I thought something was wrong or worse yet broken, but now I'm discovering that it's actually a combination of things - aperture, exposure, and shutter speed. The camera behaves differently depending on what these settings are.
Currently I'm sitting in my apartment taking different shots. I'm in Program Shift mode (setup menu I have my H2 set to Monitor Mode) using the Flexible Spot Autofocus (the camera's default is Multipoint) and then adjusting those three settings as I take shots. Then I upload the images into Photoshop and comparing them to see the differences.
I'm finding out that a lot depends on what "mode" and settings you are using.

I have the SOny H2 and have the same problem. I also find that sometimes there is a long pause before it actually takes the photo as well. It drives me up the wall as usually the opportunity has well passed by the time the camera goes off.

I have had the same problem with my H2. I actually had it as part of my problem a few days ago. I'm not sure what's causing my camera to do this, the setting i was in was sort of an over cast day outside in a park but nothing extremely different, it was late afternoon so still light enough for taking pictures without problems. i am wondering if it isnt when you have something that has alot going on in the picture, maybe it doesn't know where to focus? as i was in a sorta woodsy area with alot of trees and branches going everywhich way, but my subject was what i was attempting to focus on... this is the first sony i have had thats had this many issues, so it makes me erie of buying the next H model if its something with this series....
