I've just bought new Nikkor 18-200 lens and I have found flaws in the lens elements(inside).
What I see are very small air bubbles - it is visible under strong light and at an angle. Am I right to expect bubble free lens ?
I do not want to pay $$ for something of lesser quality than I am entitled to for the money.
Anyone thought about this before?? Many thanks.

Why not just exchange it for one that isn't defective?

Yep, take it back.. if it's a flaw - they'll swap it, if it is a "design feature" they'll explain.. though, um, bubles in a lens element... um... design feature - I think not... there is a small thread over here (http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00LP6e&unified_p=1) about old nikkor glass with bubbles, but we're talkin' old...

Is that visible in photos taken with the lens or just when you look at the lens itself?
