Another week already? Boy time passes quickly.
I'm actually remembering to put this one up a little early because I'm heading out in hopes of photographing the eclipse (fingers crossed for clear weather all evening).
This week, we have a set of photos from Maggie... The request was that people use the two photos provided to create something new :) Talk about total creative freedom here! I think this provides a really interesting challenge, so good luck to everyone!
The photos are:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/maggie-me/985494237/" title="DSC_1071 (by Maggie-Me)"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/1226/985494237_7d958ad659_m.jpg" title="DSC_1071 (by Maggie-Me)" alt="DSC_1071 (by Maggie-Me)" width="161" height="240" /></a> and <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/maggie-me/986345996/" title="DSC_0069 (by Maggie-Me)"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/1036/986345996_86ed1434db_m.jpg" title="DSC_0069 (by Maggie-Me)" alt="DSC_0069 (by Maggie-Me)" width="240" height="171" /></a>
Both are available larger (Frog (http://static.flickr.com/1226/985494237_7d958ad659_o.jpg)) (Dogs (http://static.flickr.com/1036/986345996_86ed1434db_o.jpg))
As usual, come back and show us what you did and tell us how you did it. Simple as that. Have fun, since that's what this thread is about. Not only learning, but fun.
If you want your photo to be the subject of one of these threads, please, please send me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of the photo. I'm always looking for photos so that we can keep the thread going.
Now, let's see what you would do!

I'm not sure if we were meant to combine them into one image or something, but here's what i did with the picture of the doggies...
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c49/Tiberius47/GrittyPuppycopy.jpg
I cropped the image, then used a combination of Levels and Shadow/highlight to even out the lights and darks. I duplicated the layer, desaturated it then set it to "Multiply". I also made a layer mask for this layer to stop the shadows under the dog's chin from clipping. I created a new layer, filled it with white, then applied a bunch of noise to give the impression of a lot of film grain (about 135, I believe). I set this mode to "soft light" and reduced the opacity a bit until it looked good). I created a new layer, filled it with black, then created a layer mask for it. On this layer mask i painted with a low opacity brush (varying between 10 and 20%) to allow details to come through. A kind of dodging, if you will. I then boosted the saturation of the background layer, as the colour had been somewhat removed. Finally, I used a border layer - it's a white layer with black painted on it and set to lighten. This lets the layers underneath show through the black, while the whit hides those layers. This border layer i got on the CD that came with the July 2007 issue of Digital Camera World. (it also has a tutorial for this technique in it.)
It is a little dark, but just now I slid the midpoint slider in levles to the left a little, and the shadow slider to the right a little, and it looks pretty good.

You can do anything you want !!!
This is cheating since I had a vision when I sent the challange, but this is what I did.
Fairy Tale: The Frog Prince
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/maggie-me/1248912183/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1212/1248912183_298f603b1f.jpg" width="500" height="379" alt="The Frog Prince" /></a>
Once upon a time, a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess happened upon a frog in a pond. The frog said to the princess, "I was once a handsome prince until an evil witch put a spell on me. One kiss from you and I will turn back into a prince and then we can marry, move into the castle with my mom, and you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever feel happy for doing it."
That night, while the princess dined on frogs legs, she laughed to herself and thought, "I don't think so."

Ok I didnt do a great job here as I'm at work and trying to do it while the boss isnt looking! I just pasted the frog guy onto the other picture. Then traced around the heads and moved them to another body. Then I cloned bits and pieces to cover up some of the lines.

Sometimes the story writes itself. Going with the expression on Mr. Frog's mug, and given two very different dogs, I thought transformation was in order.
Straightforward layers of both dogs and frog, each head is Selected and moved over to its position, edges cleaned up. Background has minimal changes just to unclutter view.

Made layers of the dogs and the frog.
Copy the frog and placed in with the dogs.
Replaced the color of the walk with anothe layer.
Blured some of the differant frogs and added color to the frogs white globe.

:D this was fun , I use photo studio 5.5 , I opened both photos and made new layers ,then used the majic wand to cut out the frog & copyed him ,then pasted him on the dogs face ,used the eraser to remove the top part of the frog so it looks like the dog has the frog in his mouth , did a composite & framed it for a fun detail .:D GERRR!!! That's what we think of Frogs !!!

DOG ENVY
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e381/pcarfan/image611-2.jpg
I am relatively new to PS, so wanted to spend sometime and try various things. Extracted the frogs, flipped them and moved it. Changing the opacity of the frog layer I was able to mask the appropriate areas to make it look behind the dog and the hands in front. I cloned out the flower on the frog behind the dog. In liquify I created the smile on the dog, the wrinkles around the frogs fingers and enlarged the front frog and shrunk the rear one and mildly enlarged the flower. Applied the blur from the tools menu on the backround. Cloned the dog chains and cloned the frog eyes to be oval. saturated the colors and cropped it.

2nd Bit RRRrrr, reporting: I did find intelligent life on this planet. It has setup a complex society with lower life forms as slaves, allowing them to do nothing but sleep, eat and play.

(actually I didn't see hpebley3's awesome rendition until after I finished mine, so I guess mine is what would happen after his green men invade!)

Guilty as charged...actually I'm waiting to calibrate my monitor for the first time before tackling all my vacation shots, but I'm procrastinating...:D
