Hello All:

Has anyone worked with the Nikon brand wireless remote (ML-3)? If so, what is your advice?

1) Is it a good device?
2) What are the limitations?
3) Does it do the job your bought it for?
4) any other comments to help a perspective buyer of this device?

Thank you,

Felix

I've got one, I think it was about $13, so hardly worth worrying about. I used it to take firework pictures back on July 4th on my D40. It works great. The only problem is it is an IR based system so on my camera you have to point it at the sensor on the front of the camera. It would be nice if there were also a sensor on the back of the camera. Go get one, you will be happy with it.

Cheap and works great.

Apparently there are some tv remote controls you can use too -- see here (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/07/remotely-possible-wirelessly-fire-your.html).

I shopped the ML-3 today, and the price is anywhere from US$175 to $199. depending on who is selling it. So, maybe we are talking about different units. This is a Nikon ML-3 Infrared Remote Control Set. It has a sensor unit that plugs into t caemra's multi-pin connector and the handheld remote has shutter release controls.

The ML-L3 (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?productNr=4730&cat=1&grp=56) is the wireless remote that's under $20. That is the IR one. I have this one and I really like how it works. The ML-3 (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=56&productNr=4645) is much more expensive and I don't have any experience with that one.

Yup different things.

Sounds like you need both the transmitter unit and the receiver. My D40 has the receiver built in, and so I only had to buy the transmitter.

Is there no non-Nikon alternative?

Thank you all. I will do more research and post again with more input.
