My girlfriend skated in the Saint Paul inline marathon this morning, even though the weather was crappy I couldn't resist bring my new camera to shoot the race. I put up a rather large set of pics on my gallery (http://www.inlinepics.com) if anyone is interested in seeing some more shots (comments/critique welcome). In particular, I was simultaneously excited and disappointed by the shot below. I caught this picture of her as she headed for the finish line. The blur in the crowd really seems to make her stand out, I just wish I had been able to freeze her. I was shooting in automatic and I hadn't taken any practice shots from this vantage point so I didn't realize that the camera was going to drop the shutter speed to 1/25th sec. I had been taking good pics further down the course and had been getting decent shutter speeds so I hadn't even thought of it.

Yea, it's a shame the shutter speed was so slow, that would have been an awesome shot if she had been "frozen". Excellent composition though - good eye! Just have to watch the shutter speed next time! :D

I think that shot would have *worked* if you had practiced panning with the subject, where the subject is nice and crisp while the background has a nice motion blur.
