Here is the before. I took it while coming down from Cumberland Pass in Taylor Park, Colorado. I was putting together a slideshow from this trip and wanted to use this as the opening frame.

However, as I started working on the slide show I thought I would get a little more creative with the opening frame. First I used the magic wand selection tool in PS Elements to select all the trees along side the road. I went to Adjust Color and desaturated the trees. Then I used the magnetic lasso tool to select the road and again desaturated. The result reminds me of the Black and White to Color film editing in The Wizard of OZ. I don't think it turned out too bad for one of my first attempts at this sort of thing and it did work very well with the slideshow.

Here is the finished photo.

Hi GWN1952.

Nice view and nice shot. Congratulations!
Interesting post shot processing as well. You managed to combine in one image what appears to be an application of selective color giving much emphasis on the background in this case the mountain and the sky.
Try lightening what you desaturated ( also in the hue/saturation dialogue box), i.e. the road and the trees and it might just make the forreground and backgound blend more naturally. You will note that even in the original image the foreground appears to be more saturated than the background.
The image appears to be tilted to one side, straightening it could also improve further the image.
Again nice shot and post shot processing idea.
