I like his expression in the last shot best.

I agree that the last shot is the strongest. "Superman" has a good expression and, by looking at the camera, engages with the viewer. The off-centre positioning is subtle but effective. I also like the colours for the background - a perfect choice for the colours of the costume.

The other two are good, but this one is, erm, super!

I'll add my vote for #3 as well. Gotta get me one of those 50mm f1.8s...the pic of your red-headed-soccer-goalie-goalpost-leaning-son (if you know the one I'm talking about) is an incredible portrait as well - I hope that one's framed in your house somewhere.

Thanks for the kind words. This is another one of him "engaged with the camera", more of a straightforward shot:

Rdaw -- I do really like the lens. When I read lens reviews, the reviewers always talk about sharpness and such, but they also talk about colour and contrast which I guess relates to coatings (?). Anyway, whatever they put on the 50, it seems to spit out great portraits, and the focal length (with crop factor) seems just right.

Wulf -- As for the background, there is a skating shack (not currently in use) in the park where we went to play soccer last night, which worked well with his supes t-shirt. Wanted to avoid the "look I am wearing a green shirt" (I think that's what Wulf called it) syndrome.

nice series - I could see these as a nice triptic hanging on a wall side by side - great work.

I love the colors of the whole shot as well.
I really think the third shot is a keeper (not that the others are not keepers as well). I think if there was one of him posing in the usual fashion of superman with that expression would be priceless!
great photos.

I'm also loving the third shot, though the rest are all nice as well. I love that red shack as a background and his expression is very entertaining. A personality-capturing shot if I've ever seen one!

I haven't been here long but did catch the other shots of your children. What great subjects you've got there!
