Hi,
I have just bought a new 18-200mm lens for my Nikkon D80. It was working fine for the forst 3 to 4 days and suddenly started making a high pitch squeaking noise when the VR is turned on and it tries to adjust the AF. The problem does not occur when the VR is off. Can anyone let me know if this is normal or there are some trouble with my lens.

Thanks

Does it affect performance at all? I think my 70-300 makes some noise, I thought it was a problem at first, but it hasn't changed anything.

no, it really didn't affect the picture quality at all. I am just a little skeptic as if, whether this will make some serious damages later on to my lens performance.

I was just reading a review of the 70-300VR and they mentioned whining/whirring noises that also occur in the 18-200, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If it doesn't affect the performance, don't worry about it. I think it is normal for the VR operations. It happens on mine too.
